The Camels are on the Horizon
#1
Quote:The Camels are on the Horizon

The founder of Dubai, Sheik Rashid, was asked about the future of his country, and he replied, "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I ride a Mercedes, my son rides a Land Rover, and my grandson is going to ride a Land Rover…but my great-grandson is going to have to ride a camel again. “Why is that, he was asked?
And his reply was, “Hard times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create difficult times.
Many will not understand it, but you have to raise warriors, not parasites." And add to that the historical reality that all great empires...the Persians, the Trojans, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, and in later years, the British...all rose and perished within 240 years.
They were not conquered by external enemies; they rotted from within. America has now passed that 240 year mark, and the rot is starting to be visible and is accelerating. We are past the Mercedes and Land Rover Years….the camels are on the horizon.
The greatest generation consisted of 18 year old kids storming the beaches at Normandy. And now, two generations later, some 18-year-old kids want to hide in safe rooms when they hear words that hurt their feelings. They also want free stuff from the government because they think they are entitled to it.
The "camels are on the horizon" for sure.

No truer statement.

But the thing is, not all kids are coddled and spoiled. Best thing I ever did was divorce their mom. They have had to learn how to survive and struggle. It breaks my heart, but knowing what I have taught them over the years, they are surviving.
Sure , my daughter tried to rope me into her drama and I bought into it. Then I realized she was just like me.
they are 20 and 23 years old.

No doubt sheik is right , too easy life will change people . It might be too late for reverse in many countrys, people are allready used to life style they have .

This sheik should focus first own family issues, since it seem like to kept her daughter hostage .

Explained: Who is Princess Latifa, who claims she is jailed in Dubai by her father, UAE’s ruler?

I think the story of the Sheik's words and the "hard men good times" saying has been fused.

I heard that bit about the Sheik a long time ago, and it stuck with me.  What was "reported" back then was that he said his descendants would ride camels again once the oil was pumped dry and the wealth was gone.

Just a feeling, but that version strikes me as more authentic.

Cheers

It was a choice to embrace the western wave when it wanted the oil in the region. So he should understand they brought this on themselves and have invested in breeding camel ranches and some schools that teach the old ways. There must be some tribes in the region that live the old ways, he should be supporting them too and doing ethnic studies.

Tried and true traditions will survive like they have in the past, the Amish are a good example of a people who embrace their old traditions and reject modern ways.
