NEW, thread: Pentagon confirms to me the Department of Defense is preparing to house thousands of Afghan refugees on American military installations, immediately including Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and Fort Bliss in Texas.

11:43 PM · Aug 15, 2021

Documents obtained from a source show DoD planning to potentially relocate up to 30,000 Afghan SIV applicants into the United States in the immediate future.

“The situation in Afghanistan may lead to DoS [Department of State] allowing Afghan SIV applicants to be moved to temporary housing locations while still being vetted for parolee status,” the document reads.

“We want to have capacity to get up to several thousand immediately, and want to be prepared for potential of tens of thousands,” Pentagon Spox John Kirby tells me. “Bliss & McCoy have capability right now – what’s advantageous is w/ a bit of work, could increase in short order.”

The move is a reversal from the Biden administration’s previous policy. On July 8th, President Biden told me the US government could not evacuate Afghan translators to the US to await visa processing like some migrants at the southern border.

Isn't that just hunky-dory?   tinyshouting

Just got a message from my state Secretary of Veterans Affairs basically saying the Fort near me will be taking in Afghan refugees. She sounded like it was a done deal. As in real soon.

The policy of not letting them in while the freeway at our pseudo-border with Mexico is open for business is amazing.

This whole thing leaves me steaming.  tinysure

I think the part of the excellent article from Off-Guardian that mentions the poppy fields is a very important
factor if such a deal was brokered.

"WHAT ABOUT THE HEROIN?

The press has a long history of, not just lying about Afghan heroin, but totally inverting the truth.
In 2019 for example, during the farcical “leak” of the Afghanistan Papers, the press lamented the
US’ “failure to curb” the opium trade.

Afghanistan currently produces around 90% of global heroin. When the US invaded in 2001, that
number was much closer to zero. The Taliban outlawed the growing of opium poppies in early 2001
and by the end of the year the business was almost extinct.

The US invaded in November 2001, and opium production has increased almost every year since then.
We don’t need to go into the CIA’s links to the drug trade here, or how much money people have made
from this heroin production. That’s not relevant, what we need to ask is, what now?

Will the newly-reinstated Taliban put an end to this trade again? Or will production continue?

According the press, the heroin will continue to flow. In fact the Taliban will increase production because
the “illegal drug trade helps fuel” them.

Reuters reports that the US plan to halt heroin production “failed”, and that the opoium trade is a “boon”
for the Taliban. The Telegraph headlines that “Taliban mulls flooding the West with heroin to shore up
Afghan economy”. So we should be prepared for the illegal heroin trade to increase now the US has
“withdrawn” from Afghanistan.

But the idea that heroin benefits the Taliban, and the US wants to put an end to it is a myth. Afghan heroin
is, and always has been, a US/Deep State/corporate enterprise to the bone.

And, If the Taliban do allow the US to continue to use their land to mass-produce heroin, that is yet another
piece of evidence supporting a deal between the Taliban and the West..."

Fact.

Heroin is illegal according the shari'a law, and carries the death penalty.

The Taliban is real big on their very own version of the shari'a. They eradicated opium poppy production twenty years ago when they were still in power the first time by simply saying "poppies are illegal, and we will kill you if you grow them". Killing is a credible threat when it comes from the Taliban, so production stopped.

I recall hearing all about how the Taliban was financing their operations by producing and selling opium, and I knew when I read it that it was complete bullshit.

For all the folks trying to say "Afghanistan is all about the opium". opium poppies can be grown nearly anywhere, They don't need Afghanistan for that. Hell, little old American grandmas grow opium poppies in their flower gardens. From there,it's just a matter of scale.

Opium poppy cultivation is at scale in New Zealand, for example, right now. It's just a matter of increasing production to account for the coming shortfall in Afghanistan.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

Something is not right with the leadership of taliban. Abdul Ghani Baradaran , the taliban leader was arrested 2010 in Pakistan ,until pressure from the United States saw him freed in 2018 and relocated to Qatar . Qatar is US ally, having big military base there also.

So this guy was released from Pakistan jail 2018 because US pressured, and now he is supposed to be taliban leader......

Who is Abdul Ghani Baradar, the man who led the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan?

Is he just a puppet leader ? tinybighuh

First of all, I don't think Biden makes any decisions. He is there for 2 reasons. He is a totally controlled, bought and paid for inept puppet for globalization. Second, the whole point of the current Regime is to remove the US from the status of #1 superpower by showing the world that we have a senile leader who makes terrible decisions.

I don't believe this is any attempt to end an endless war, this is about creating more fear, chaos, uncertainty and destruction. At the end of the day, this is what the whole thing is about.

The cave-dweller and the clown.

Bin Laden made the remark in a 2010 letter that was found in a trove of documents at the Pakistan compound
where he was killed by US special forces in 2011. The document was first made public in 2012 but has been
brought back to light and given new significance amid the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan that has gifted
the country back to the Taliban.

Bin Laden - then-leader of al Qaeda, and the man that America went to Afghanistan to kill - penned the 48-page
missive in May 2010 to an aide identified as 'Brother Shaykh Mahmud', real name Atiyah Abd al-Rahman.

In it, he discusses the need to direct resources away from terror attacks in other Muslim countries and instead
focus on direct attacks against the US.

On page 36, he outlines his desire to form two hit squads - one in Pakistan and another in Afghanistan - whose job
it will be to plot attacks against then-US President Barack Obama and ex-CIA director David Petraeus, should they
visit either country.

Giving his reasoning for attacking Obama, he says: 'Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will
make Biden take over the presidency for the remainder of the term, as it is the norm over there.

'Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the US into a crisis.'
He the adds: 'As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour in this last year of the war, and killing him would alter the war's
path.'

US intelligence analysts who first revealed the existence of the document to the Washington Post in 2012 said neither
of the plots against Obama or Petraeus were realistic or amounted to anything.

But bin Laden's attack on Biden's abilities and his forewarning of an American 'crisis' rings truer now than it did back then.
Biden is facing mounting fury across the world for abandoning Afghans to their fate - and yesterday it emerged that his
administration was warned last month that the Afghan capital would quickly fall to the Taliban after an American withdrawal.

A dozen diplomats sent a confidential memo in a dissent channel to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on July 13 that the
Taliban was rapidly gaining ground and the city was vulnerable to collapse, the Wall Street Journal reported.

On July 8, President Biden said it was 'highly unlikely' the Taliban would take control of Afghanistan and denied there would
be chaos in Kabul. There are mounting questions over how the White House, the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence services
were evaluating the future of Afghanistan, the threat of the Taliban and how quickly power would change hands.

Afghan security forces were collapsing, they said, and offered ways to mitigate the advancing insurgents.
But it may have been too late to stop them.

The State Department memo, according to the report, also called for the government to use tougher language on the violence
in the past from the Taliban and urged them to start collecting information for Afghan allies who qualified for Special Immigrant
Visas after working with US forces.

The Journal reported that 23 Embassy staffers signed the cable and rushed to deliver it considering the deteriorating situation
in Kabul. Blinken reviewed the cable, a personal familiar with it told the paper.

State Department spokesman Ned Price told the Journal: 'He's made clear that he welcomes and encourages use of the dissent
channel, and is committed to its revitalization. We value constructive internal dissent.'...'

Quote:What's Wrong With Joe? Biden Calls a Lid on Public Appearances—Indefinitely
He is a Fucking Senile Disgrace.
Quote:Fox News reports that Biden has effectively called a lid, this time indefinitely.

Quote:In what appears to be a continuation of his campaign bunker strategy, and following his widely panned interview with ABC News on the stunning fall of Afghanistan, President Biden’s schedule Thursday contained no planned public remarks or press briefings.
The president took all public remarks, press briefings and press conferences off his schedule as he and his administration deal with the blowback from their botched troop withdrawal that saw Kabul fall into the hands of the Taliban.
Quote:Biden has taken public appearances off his schedule without explanation. Reports indicate he has left Washington for his home state of Delaware, or soon will.

Kamala Harris has announced a trip to Singapore and Vietnam after being silent throughout the Afghanistan crisis.
Afghanistan remains a chaotic and extremely dangerous tinderbox with thousands of Americans stranded and surrounded by the Taliban while they await evacuation.
But Joe Biden has walked away again and called a lid.
