May Day Morris Dancers Become Woke?!
#1
Political correctness strikes again.
It must be nice when you can destroy customs and call it diversity, now lets kill them racist zebras.

'A group of Morris dancers have changed their face paint from black to blue following concerns over racism.

Members of the Hook Eagle Morris Men showcased their new look at a performance near Hook, Hampshire,
to mark the May Day dawn earlier. A statement was issued last year calling for dancing groups to eliminate
the use of full-face black makeup.

Evil white men with their truncheons.

Dancer John Ellis, 70, said it was "by far and away the biggest change" in the group's 30-year history.
The call to stop the use of black makeup on the face was issued by cross-county group the Joint Morris
Organisations in June in response to the Black Lives matter movement.

In a statement, it said its traditions do not operate in a vacuum.
"While no Morris dancer wants to cause offence, we must recognise that full-face black or other skin tone makeup
is a practice that has the potential to cause deep hurt," it said. Mr Ellis said other Morris troupes had adapted their
face paints to different colours too, with some going green and a group in Kent opting for yellow and black stripes.

He said the tradition of covering faces with soot derived from poor farm workers in the 1400s who would use it to
disguise themselves so they could beg - which was illegal at the time. That historical tradition "died out", he said,
but was revived in the 1970s by Border Morris dancers - a dance type which originated in villages along the border
of England and Wales.

"We adopted this idea because the dancing is really easy, good fun and we quite like the idea of dancing in disguise,"
Mr Ellis added. He said there were only three people in the audience on Saturday morning, including a photographer
and cafe owner, but felt this was "pretty good" given the performance took place shortly after 05:00 BST.

Mr Ellis said it was "fantastic" to be back performing after a 16-month absence caused by the coronavirus pandemic...'

No matter what one does these days you do not have to look to far to find someone claiming they are offended. We need to write an apocalypse story about how all the soi boys and girls end up when the SHTF for real !!

Staying with the politically-correct Morris Dancers, other aspects of the traditional May Day festivals in the UK were
not altered because of diversity fear. Of course, this may be that the effigy burned was called 'the Whicker MAN!'

The centuries-old bonfire ritual is associated with the arrival of summer, and flames rose up at the Beltain Festival
near Chalton, Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Morris dancers swapped traditional black face paint for blue as they performed near Hook.
The governing body called for other colours following Black Lives Matter protests. The Hook Eagle Morris Men performed
near Hook, Hampshire, to mark May Day dawn .

Dancer John Ellis, 70, said: “It’s by far and away the biggest if not really the only change we’ve experienced.”
Other troupes had gone for green and one in Kent opted for yellow and black stripes...'

That would be a short story indeed!

"They all died. Bodies everywhere, rotting in the sun. The end".

...And they're back! As the woke-trend fades due to the media promoting it and the public ignoring it,
the traditional Morris Dancers -all dressed in their 'Chimney Sweep' make-up, perform for the May
celebrations.

Quote:Blackface Morris dancers who were axed from national body for refusing to give up controversial make-up
continue to defy critics by entertaining May Day pub crowd

*Britannia Coconut Dancers traditionally perform for locals in Bacup, Lancashire
*But they were told to stop painting faces black in response to the BLM campaign
*The group defied instruction yesterday, however, and still performed in make-up

'Blackface Morris dancers yesterday defied critics to entertain a May Day pub crowd, while still wearing their
controversial make-up. Members of the Britannia Coconut Dancers in Bacup, Lancashire, split from The Joint
Morris Organisation, the umbrella group which represents the country's 800 dancing teams, after being told to
stop painting their faces black in 2020.

The dance body ruled that 'full face black or other skin tone make-up was a practice that had the potential to
cause deep hurt' and members must stop in response to the Black Lives Matter campaign.

But the group defied instruction and continued to take part in traditional celebrations, appearing in the same
costumes and make-up, in front of the Crown Inn on Sunday.  And despite growing criticism, local ethnic minority
charity, Lancashire BME Network, backed the dance troupe and said they had 'never seen it as a racial thing'
within the context.

The Coconut Dancers typically wear red tunics, white hats, black jerseys, white stockings, shiny black clogs and
paint their faces black, while performing to the public. While the exact origins of their costume is unclear, it is believed
that their uniforms are influenced by the Moorish pirates who settled in Cornwall and soon entered the local mining
industry during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The pirates became employed in tin mines, before moving to the coal mines of the North.
The group insist their blackened faces, a reference to the coal mining industry in the town they are based in, was part
of a clog-dancing tradition dating back more than 100 years.

Another theory is that underpaid mill workers would dance to to earn extra income and painted their face black so their
employers would not know they were dancing for money. However, another troupe of Morris dancers last year ditched
their 500-year-old blackface tradition amid a racism row and have performed for the first time while painted green.

Silurian Border Morrismen had voted to scrap the black face paint for their Boxing Day Tour to avoid causing offence
in the wake of the BLM movement. The group performed their English folk dance routine to crowds of onlookers in Ledbury,
Herefordshire, with their faces painted dark green instead.

Silurian foreman Ian Craigan admitted some people 'feel it is a step too far' but wants to be 'on the right side of things' to
help attract new members to the club. The Britannia Coconut Dancers, also known as the Nutters, describe themselves
as unique, with their dance routines involving eight men, each carrying a set of coconuts, which act as props similar to
wooden castanets.

While the dancers tap the coconuts together to create a rhythmical percussive sound, another member of the group,
known as a 'whiffler', accompanies the performance with a whip. Every Easter Saturday the group perform a dance
in the Lancashire town raising thousands for good causes but were forced to cancel the annual procession due to the
coronavirus pandemic.

In 2014, a beer named after the troupe was banned by the bar in the House of Commons as the image on the pump
was deemed offensive. The troupe has an international fanbase, according to the Times, having performed in Germany,
Belgium, Holland, Ireland and Spain.

Madness.
I don't know one Black person who would be even remotely offended by Morris Dancers with blackened faces.

I have to say I find Morris Dancers most annoying.
I know most people find them quaint and quintessentially English but for some reason, and I honestly don't know why, they just get on my tit ends.

Good on 'em!

BM needs to get their asses down off their shoulders and realize there are innumerable traditions around the world, and damned near ALL of those other traditions are older than the BLM tradition. No one has to conform to BLM traditions - quite the opposite. As the New Kids on the Block, BLM needs to conform to the REST of the world's traditions, or else just leave the rest of us the hell alone and go sulk in their corner.
