Was trying not to guess.  Down here in this comment.  I'd guess Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and Commiefornia.

previously sovereign states, don't know how far you want to go back on that, some areas changed hand a couple of time before the U.S.
so i'll go with 5 years before and 50years after of the founding.
