Mothman,,,, Really!!??
#1
This is a Cryptid I have a hard time with, I think it is the description of this Cryptid.

I was thinking of maybe a Draco Lizard Being with Wings, or maybe a Flying Dinosaur, traveling in and out of their Dimension kinda of how I think Bigfoot does.

I'm attaching a pretty good video I think.

What about the Blackbird of Chernobyl, was that the Mothman?

The Mothman phenomena is a perfect example of how an unusual incident can be inflated into something that many propose
has larger connotations regarding our standard reality.

Sadly, due to the rush to attach these possibly disconnected happenings to its alleged appearance, the strange set of sightings
and the Silver Bridge tragedy are now bound together because of our human proclivity to have a reason for a disastrous event,
no matter how improbable.

The sightings.
November 12, 1966. Clendenin, West Virginia. Five gravediggers claimed to see a human-like figure soaring just above
them into nearby trees.

November 15, 1966. Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Two couples both spotted a white-winged, human-sized creature with fiery eyes standing in front of their car headlights.
Fleeing the strange appearance, the flying figure followed the car from an area outside of town known as "the TNT area",
the site of a former World War II munitions plant.
Witness Steve Mallette:  “It was like a man with wings, it wasn’t anything like you’d seen on TV or in a monster movie.”
Witness, Roger Scarberry. 'The creature had red eyes about two inches in diameter and six inches apart.

The two couples and the TNT location site.

November 17, 1966. Route 7, near Cheshire.
A teenage boy said he saw a grey man-shaped ten-feet tall creature with red eyes, whilst driving. He added that
the figure 'shot-up' straight into the air.

December 4, 1966. Five pilots at the Gallipolis airport saw what they believed was an airplane, going 70 mph.
Then all five clearly said it appeared to be a giant bird, with a long neck. (Relevant?)

December 7, 1966. Route 33, Ohio. Four women were driving when they spied a brownish-silver man-shaped flying
creature with glowing red eyes.

The further accounts become vague on the dates, but most researchers look to author John Keel for more descriptions
and accounts. 1967 continued with visits from this mysterious shadowy figure and additional descriptions of the Mothman
offered little in the form of what it could rationally be.

According to Mr. Keel's later reporting in the seventies, Mothman stood between five and seven feet tall. The creature's girth
was wider than a man and when it walked, it shuffled on human-like legs. Its flesh was described as 'murky' as being either
grey or brown. There were also reports of a screeching sound during one incident, however this cannot be ascribed to the
creature entirely.

With no head ever described, witnesses said the entity's eyes were set near the top of the shoulders and had bat-like wings
that glided during flight unlike the average bird. Also, some witnesses -during this flurry of sightings, reported that the creature
emitted a humming sound when it flew and tended to ascend straight up “like a helicopter.”

Then a year later, the Silver Bridge disaster occurred.
December 15, 1967. An eyebar-chain suspension bridge named 'Silver Bridge' -due to its colour from being coated with
aluminum paint, collapsed into the Ohio River during rush hour traffic.
Forty-six people died.

The bridge built in 1928, carried traffic on U.S. Route 35 over the Ohio River and connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia,
and Gallipolis, Ohio. Analysis of the wreckage showed that a dysfunctional eyebar in the suspension chain was the cause
for the collapse, however locals felt that the Mothman was somehow mysteriously tied to the tragedy.

An alleged photo taken on the replacement bridge after the tragedy.

If that was the end of the weird situation, then the Mothman legend and the bridge collapse would have been written into
the paranormal history books as a phenomena that had veracity, but its specifics were beyond our understanding.
A conundrum in its manner of displaying a supposed omen.

Sceptics might suggest chicanery with the use of a kite or the proposition of large-winged birds that were reported to have
been seen on the Ohio River, which is typical and composed from dissenters of preternatural activity.
The report of 'ascending like an helicopter' and the lack of wing flapping does offer the idea that whatever was seen didn't
act in our environment in a standard fashion and only adds to the mystery without further investigation.

A renown contemporary ornithologist Dr. Robert L. Smith, dismissed the Mothman as a Sandhill Crane and ignored the fact
that the species isn't native to West Virginia. Also, the reported object didn't have a long neck!

In the earliest reports, there seemed to be an emphasis on the 'TNT' storage location for some reason and I never fully
understood what that was for, as the assumed prophecy from the Mothman's appearance has been connected to the bridge
accident. In fact, the whole phenomena of Point Pleasant seems very disjointed.

Take this article from an ABC-affiliated television station, WCHS-TV

29th November 2016.
"A man driving along State Route 2 in Point Pleasant said he snapped these pictures of a creature jumping from tree to tree.
Many locals in Point Pleasant believe it resembles the legendary Mothman -a red-eyed creature many believe is a bad omen..."

And as of writing, there's been no reported major mishap in the Point Pleasant area, unless you count-in the documentary released
the year after this sighting! (To be fair, it isn't that bad!) So the Mothman's modus operandi seems to be either in error or not what
we originally thought.

The Mothman is indelibly set into our popular culture, the theories of what is was and why it appeared will continue until its silhouette
glides across the Ohio-West Virginia State line once more. Let's just hope its reasons are positive this time.

A drone?!!

Seriously, since the original sighting, certain elements like Tourist Boards and the media
have worked to 'humanise' the Mothman. You need a face to either terrify people to come
and purchase you key-rings or a child-friendly one to run out of size XXL in T-shirts!

So slowly, the head appeared and with it, came a shape more recognisable to Joe Q. Public.
The 'thing' first described back in the sixties is now technically 'Manmoth' because it draws
better money.
