Coast Guard Lieutenant Accused of Terrorist Plot

The media is calling this man a white supremacist, and he very well may be, but what concerns me is that "they" label everyone on the right as a "white supremacist". 
I have to tell everyone out there that I don't condone violence against anyone unless they throw the first punch, or they are trying to harm my family. And I certainly don't condone any acts of terrorism!

This could be another FF setup from the Left making it appear to be from the Right.  I did a search on his name, but nothing told his political party.

This is still an early story, so let's see what else comes out about this. If he is really on the Right, he should be punished to the full extent of the law!  He makes the rest of us look bad.  Either way, either side, I'm glad they got this POS off the streets!

A Coast Guard lieutenant arrested earlier this week on drug and gun charges was planning to commit domestic terrorism, according to a court filing from the U.S. District Court in Maryland.

In a motion filed Tuesday, U.S. attorneys said Christopher Hasson, a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard who has served at the service’s headquarters in Washington since 2016, had a hit list of targets, a cache of guns and a series of communications with white supremacists. The first sentence in the motion imploring the court to detain Hasson pending trial: “The defendant intends to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.”

Per the motion, he was arrested Feb. 15 on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by an unlawful user or addict of controlled substances, as well as “simple possession” of an opioid. But, prosecutors write, these charges “are the proverbial tip of the iceberg.”

“The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect governmental conduct.”

Per the court document, Hasson has been serving as an acquisitions officer at the Coast Guard’s D.C. headquarters since June of 2016. Though he has not received any tactical, weapons or explosives-related training in this position, the prosecutors note that Hasson served in the Marine Corps from 1988 to 1993, followed by approximately two years of active duty with the Army National Guard. When authorities raided his residence earlier this month, they found 15 firearms and over 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition, the document says. His detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Greenbelt, Md. According to a separate court filing signed Feb. 15, Hasson will be represented by a public defender.

The filing was first reported by Seamus Hughes, the deputy director of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University.

Prosecutors stated that since 2017 Hasson has “routinely perused” the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, a far-right Norwegian terrorist who killed 77 people in two attacks in 2011. Hasson followed the instructions of the document, which tell “a prospective assailant to amass appropriate firearms, food, disguises, and survival supplies.”

On Jan. 17, Hasson allegedly compiled a list of targets including a number of Democratic politicians and left-leaning political commentators. The names on the list include “Sen blumen jew” (presumably Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.,) and “poca warren” (presumably Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.).

There are also references to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a long list of additional Democratic senators, including Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Tim Kaine, D-Va. The list also includes likely references to a number of House members (Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.), television hosts (Joe Scarborough and Chris Hayes of MSNBC, Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo of CNN), former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas and the Democratic Socialists of America.

On the same day he finished the list, the court filing says, Hasson completed the following Google searches over the course of three hours: “what if trump illegally impeached,” “best place in dc to see congress people,” “where in dc to congress live,” “civil war if trump impeached” and “social democrats usa.”

Hasson’s alleged online searches for pro-Russian, neo-fascist and neo-Nazi literature, along with draft emails recovered from his email offer insight into what prosecutors describe as extremist views.

“I am dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth,” Hasson allegedly wrote in a draft email to “acquaintances” last June; in the email, he appears to outline a stream of possible ways — ranging from biological attacks to “bombing/sniper campaign” — to violently fight back against “Liberalist/Globalist ideology is destroying traditional peoples esp white.”

“It seems inevitable that we are doomed,” the email continues, with Hasson soliciting ideas for how he might “enlist the help of another power/country,” such as Russia “or any land that despises the west’s liberalism. Excluding of course the muslim scum,” conceding, “I don’t think I can cause complete destruction on my own.”

Among the list of things he seems to be instructing himself to do once he “comes off of TDL [tramadol],” the opioid he was charged with possession of, is taking a “serious look at appropriate individual targets, to bring greatest impact. Professors, DR’s, Politian’s, Judges, leftists in general.”

In another alleged draft email sent to himself in September 2017, Hasson apparently wrote to a well-known American neo-Nazi leader, identifying himself as “a long time White Nationalist, having been a skinhead 30 plus years ago before my time in the military.”

In addition to evidence of regular tramadol use, prosecutors also note that Hasson appeared to be stockpiling human growth hormone in accordance with part of the Breivik manifesto that recommends the use of narcotics to increase killing ability. Agents said they discovered a locked case filled with more than 30 bottles labeled “HGH” when they searched Hasson’s home.

Charges related to domestic terrorism in the United States have risen in recent years and, according to a report from the Southern Poverty Law Center released earlier Wednesday, the number of hate groups operating in the country has reached an all-time high. Last fall, a Florida man was arrested for mailing 16 pipe bombs to critics of President Trump and prominent Democratic figures, and a gunman killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue that had supported refugees.

Looks either like a setup or a case of hysteria to me.

I saw a newscaster the other day talking about this, claiming the guy had "4 AR-15's, sniper rifles" etc. I see only THREE AR-15's, and the alleged "sniper rifles" are just .22's - at least that's what's showing in the photos. Who the hell snipes with a .22? While it's true that some assassins use .22's, I don't know of any assassins that use .22 rifles - they just aren't concealable enough for the sound signature trade-off. The reason some assassins use .22's is to minimize drawing attention, something that can't be done with a long gun... it's just not something you can slip up your sleeve and walk away whistling with.

Just as an aside, I note that one man only has two hands, so 3 AR's is a bit of overkill for one person to wield.

15 firearms? We used to have a saying around here - "beware the man who only has one gun, because he knows how to use it." 15 indicates a collector, not an attacker.

The article mentions that they also seized "1000 rounds of ammunition" of various calibers. That's really not much for a man intent on mayhem. I can burn up that much in a day on the range. It's REALLY not much to feed 15 firearms! It comes out to around 67 rounds per weapon, on average. I used to shoot twice that much just qualifying with my sidearm.

I can see that one of the ammo cans appears to be loaded with 5.56 for the AR's on stripper clips. That can contains around 420 rounds... but that, divided among 3 AR's, only comes out to 140 rounds each, which is not much for any kind of assault. Back in the day, a basic loadout for an M16 on patrol was 210 rounds - 7 magazines of 30 round each. That was 6 on the belt and one in the weapon. What this guy has seems just a bit... inadequate... for any serious assault. Nowadays, a basic loadout for operators appears to be about 330 rounds - 10 30 rd mags on the vest and one in the weapon. This guy has less than half of that.

As a historical observation, the "420 rounds per can" was settled on as a basic loadout for two men per ammo can way back when. Some of them nowadays hold 840 rounds, a basic loadout for 4 men.

While we're on the subject, I see 12 magazines. That seems a lot, until you factor in that the have to be divided amongst 3 weapons. That's light even for a lightweight police assault, much less a full-scale military type dustup.

The rest of the long guns consist of a single shot .410 or possibly 20 gauge shotgun, not something you'd want to use to cause mass destruction, what with having to break it open and reload after every single shot. That one appears to be a Harrington-Richardson. My dad used to use one of those to rabbit hunt with, but I never did - I always wanted a fast followup shot if necessary, which that design does not promote or even offer.

There are two pump shotguns, one in "riot gun" configuration with an extended magazine tube. It's made as a fighting gun, but mostly for self-defense because of the short range. The other has a riot gun barrel, but a standard short magazine tube. There is also a long hunting barrel present to change onto the gun, but for effect they installed the short barrel to make it look more like a riot gun. It's not. It's a hunting weapon.

The only things I see there that are even potentially illegal are 3 sound suppressors (probably for the .22's), and a plate carrier with ballistic inserts. I say potentially illegal because those can all be had legally as well. The sound suppressors involve Federal registration and a transfer tax (I don't recall how much, whether it's the $200.00 "firearm" tax each or a $5.00 "destructive device" tax), and the plate carrier and ballistic plates are illegal in some jurisdictions and not others. Why anyone would make illegal an item designed to SAVE YOUR LIFE and not hurt anyone is beyond me, but some politicians are downright hysterical about some stuff. For example, I could buy "bullet proof vests" all day long and pile 'em up if I wanted to in North Carolina, but Chicago has a real problem with anyone protecting themselves from their local criminal element.  I question the legitimacy of laws that proclaim you have to just lay down and die if attacked. This guy was arrested in Maryland, so it may be that they don't allow self-defense there, either... after all, they've outlawed so-called "assault weapons" and magazines that hold more than 10 or 15 rounds there.

Dipshits. S'ok, I used to have to wear them per regulations, and never did like them. They are hot, stiff, and heavy, and do nothing to protect you from head shots while at the same time restricting your mobility. Good to keep random shrapnel from perforating you, though. I reckon they might be ok if you just plan in sitting there in the middle of grenade explosions, and not trying to move or get away from said explosions.

His writings are erratic, and some of it does not add up to a credible threat. For example, he says he might begin serious planning after he comes off the Tramadol. That means he was NOT seriously planning anything at the moment. There is no mention in the article of whether the Tramadol was legal or not. That seems suspicious. One thing his writings show is that he was too erratic to pull off any serious operation.

All in all, it looks to me like this is just a case of "gun hysteria" without any analysis to dispel the hysterics. If this joker ever went up against a legitimately dangerous person, that person would be eating this cat's lunch inside of 30 seconds. Remember, ANYONE can be a seriously dangerous person when they are under threat. I'm not talking about super-soldiers here. High school history teachers can and have neutralized more serious threats than this guy.

He does appear to need some mental health help. He appears to be even more paranoid than me, but without the mental faculties to plan out a serious defense. Instead, he appears to have just amassed a random collection of guns - far more than he could ever use in a fight - and a couple of bullets, but not enough to properly feed those guns in any kind of prolonged or sustained assault, either defensive or offensive. That's not a plan, it's a cry for help. It's a guy whose afraid of everything, afraid of the world, but who doesn't know how to make everything ok in his little corner of it...

... so he collects random guns and talks crazy shit.
