Girl 'trafficked into the country for sexual exploitation' rescued by police.

A girl from Romania who police believe was trafficked into the country for sexual exploitation
was rescued from a house in Hulme following a Europe-wide police operation.
National Crime Agency officers investigating a major crime gang involved in human trafficking
and money laundering arrested three men and rescued 10 women in targeted raids.
It is believed gang leaders used the internet to advertise the girls they trafficked for sexual
exploitation. The NCA said the organised crime group and its European network are suspected
to have made around €5 million in criminal profits.
Search warrants at addresses in Newcastle, Gateshead and Manchester were executed on Monday.
The NCA confirmed a girl found at a property in Hulme was ‘safeguarded’ and was now being
supported by the NHS and a specialist unit of the agency.
No arrests were made in Manchester and no further details about the girl or her age have been revealed.
The operation in the UK was part of an international day of action led by authorities in Romania and
co-ordinated through Europol.
Search warrants were also executed in the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany and Romania,
leading to a further 30 arrests of suspected members of the trafficking network.
The NCA said officers seized thousands of pounds in cash from the various properties raided, as well
as ammunition and pepper spray.
The agency said the 10 potential victims were all receiving support.
The NCA’s Brian Shaw said: “The criminal networks involved in human trafficking often coerce people
to move across continents on the basis of false promises of a better life. In reality, victims are treated
as commodities and end up being as victims of sexual exploitation, domestic servitude or forced labour.
“Tackling modern slavery and human trafficking is a priority for the NCA and we have had tremendous
support from local authorities and colleagues across law enforcement to disrupt this network and
safeguard victims.”
Police said they believe women and girls were trafficked into the UK by the gang on the promise of
paid employment, but what awaited them was a ‘horrific life of exploitation’.
