It's a difficult time over here, Daitengu... with 'Brexit' still burning the ears of those in the the City.

Black Friday passed in the form of a sputtering firework on a wet Tuesday morning. It seems that
the 'Establishment' is always a little behind to appreciate businesses that don't fall within normal,
umbrella-carrying, bowler-hatted categories and so this kind of 'relief' is looked upon with a slight
taint of jest.

One would wonder if the Hampstead Heath Gentlemen's toilets had any discount going for the
plum-toned visiting gentry!

When discussing the United Kingdom these days, one has to look at it this way.
Where I live, we had a power-cut for several hours a couple of months back. I know it sometimes
happens and in this attention-short world, access to the internet and television falls in line with
going without food and water.

However, it wasn't news-worthy.

But if it happens in London....
'Blackout hits London's Soho on Black Friday'

'Black Friday took on another meaning in central London when a power cut plunged
a large part of Soho into darkness.

Theatre shows were cancelled and shops closed as tourists and shoppers tried to
enjoy the capital's night life.

UK Power Networks said 2,300 properties had been affected by the blackout which
began at 17:16 GMT.
The network operator said power had been restored shortly after 21:00 and apologised
"for the disruption this caused to everyone's evening"...'

Nightmare, huh?!

@"BIAD"

Is prostitution legal over there on your side of the pond? From the looks of that article it seems to be a legal enterprise.

No... it's advertised by MSM that it's against the law, but recently it's become 'tolerated'
Legally, it's okay within certain stated boundaries. No kerb-crawling or pimping.

Edit: It's generally perceived as illegal.

(Wikipedia)

'In England and Wales, it is an offence to pay for sex with a prostitute who has been
"subjected to force" and this is a strict liability offence (clients can be prosecuted even
if they did not know the prostitute was forced)...'

I think it's hoped that prostitution assists in keeping certain aspects of crime down and
let's be honest, it's a 'guy-thing' so some the old bastards in Parliament tend to see the
occupation as belonging in the realms of working-class, twenty-something women who
do it for a bit of extra money.

Of course in the real world, this involves young English boys and girls picked up at Kings
Cross Railway station, poverty-fleeing immigrants 'acquired' from overseas and the regular
company of women who have fallen through the safety net of Britain's welfare system.

It's not like the movies!

A friend of mine was a Detective in a regional Drug-Squad and sometimes, I'd accompany
him for a drink in the evenings to some of his 'haunts' that he worked in.

It's tolerated alright, we once visited a public house where he explained to me (-and I
had to pretend I was someone I was not!)... that the Landlord was the pimp, his wife
shop-lifted clothes for the women in the bar with us and that the Landlord also paid
one of the prostitutes he favoured £300-per-week ($375 today) -to stay off the streets.
That was over twenty-five years ago.

It was stated that as long as it didn't interfere with the regular folk of the town, a blind-eye
was turned.

The extreme cases of female abuses came to light recently and whether it falls under the
heading 'Prostitution' I think is dubious.
And certainly not what the Members of Parliament think.

Oh those days!
To softly sip one's Earl Grey from a delicate cup and peruse the recently colonised realm
for signs of dignified civility!

We tried that in the States, but they kicked us out!!
Pompousness is difficult to transport overseas and that's what surprised me in the recent
elections over there.
The Democrats took a swing at it and hoped to con the electorate with their 'we know
better' tactic!
