SOTU 2019

President Trump gave his State of the Union Address last night.  Here is a rundown of seven memorable highlights.
This report originally came from ABC and then Yahoo picked it up, so expect it to slant Left.

Quote:President Donald Trump's State of the Union address was just under an hour and a half in its entirety, but there were several key lines that were memorable because of the vivid or telling reactions they prompted in the House Chamber.
Some touched on pivotal issues that have been at the heart of the administration's policy priorities, like building a wall at the southern border and working towards a better relationship with North Korea.
Others were more spontaneous, such as when the largely quiet Democratic female members of Congress -- many of whom dressed in white to send a political message -- took a moment to celebrate their wins in the midterm election.

Here is the rundown of some of the most notable lines:
1. When he brought up the investigations
"An economic miracle is taking place in the United States -- and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics or ridiculous partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn't work that way!"
(MORE: State of the Union fact check: What President Donald Trump is claiming)

2. A moment of bipartisan unity for criminal justice reform
"Now, Matthew is the very first person to be released from prison under the First Step Act."
The First Step Act was one of the final acts of the prior Congress, with a bipartisan bill offering reforms to sentencing laws.
Matthew Charles attended the State of the Union as one of the honored guests, and the president detailed how he was sentenced to 35 years for selling drugs. Trump detailed how during his time in prison, Charles participated in Bible studies, became a law clerk and mentored his peers.

3. Talking about the wall and pointing fingers
"In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall, but the proper wall never got built. I will get it built."
This is not the first time that Trump has made such a claim, but when Democrats have voted for a physical barrier along the border in the past, it was far different than what he is currently asking for.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 called for the construction of 700 miles of fencing along the southern border, including enhanced surveillance technology, satellites, radar coverage and cameras.

The barrier was far less ambitious than the "big, beautiful" concrete wall Trump promised voters.
The legislation was part of the Bush administration's broader strategy for comprehensive immigration reform. And while the bill itself called for the construction of border "fencing," it also included a multi-faceted approach at securing the border.
The final vote in the Senate was 80-19.

Twenty-six Democrats voted in favor of the bill, including Schumer, the current Democratic leader. The final vote in the House was 283-138. Current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi voted against it. The legislation was signed into law by President George W. Bush.

4. The women of Congress take a stand
[Image: sotu-34-gty-jc-190205_hpMain_16x9_608.jpg]
"No one has benefited more from our thriving economy than women, who have filled 58 percent of the newly created jobs last year. You weren’t supposed to do that. Thank you very much. Thank you very much."
"All Americans can be proud that we have more women in the workforce than ever before -- Don’t sit yet. You’re gonna like this! And exactly one century after Congress passed the constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote, we also have more women serving in Congress than ever before. That's great, really great. And congratulations, that's great."

5. Controversial comments about abortion
"These are living, feeling, beautiful, babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother's womb."
Trump was referencing embattled Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's controversial comments about third trimester abortions.
(MORE: Racist photo scandal and Kavanaugh hearing put yearbooks in the spotlight)

During a radio interview with radio station WTOP, Northam said "it's done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that's non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."

6. Touting his presidential performance
"If I had not been elected President of the United States, we would right now, in my opinion, be in a major war with North Korea."

7. Slamming socialism
"Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence -- not government coercion, domination and control. We are born free, and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country."
ABC News' Justin Fishel, Mariam Khan and Kendall Heath contributed to this report.

The camera showed Bernie's face when President Trump was talking about socialism. He was leaning over towards the chair arm with his head in his hand and he didn't look too happy.   tinylaughing

So far I haven't been able to locate a video of the speech in full, but I'll come back and post it if I do.

Here is a poll from CBS, that's a leftist poll mind you, and it shows a 76% approval rating.  That's awesome!   minusculeclap

Quote:It is going to be harder for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to work against funding border security after tonight.  President Donald Trump’s State of The Union speech was measured by CBS after delivery.  The results were initally tweeted:

♦ 76 percent of CBS viewers approved of what they heard in President. Trump’s SOTU speech;
♦ 72 percent of CBS viewers said they approved of President Trump’s SOTU ideas for immigration.

Thanks for sharing that @BIAD.  That's not even the one I was talking about, but I suppose he looked disgusted throughout the entire speech.   tinylaughing

Ahh... here we go.  The Left Media are weighing in with their negative opinions of the SOTU.

Quote:The entire crew of CBS This Morning appeared on a special live edition of the Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night. Unsurprisingly, they were “disturbed” by the President’s State of the Union talk of a wall on the southern border and of his touting of the U.S. economy.

Gayle King, Democratic donor and friend of liberal candidates complained, “I always find it disturbing, though, Stephen, when he talks about the wall. And you would think there are marauding immigrants and migrant workers who are coming into this country who are going to murder us while we're sleeping in our beds.”

Of course, one State of the Union guest actually had her parents murdered in their house. Trump spoke of Debra Bissell. He explained:
Quote:Just three weeks ago, Debra’s parents, Gerald and Sharon, were burglarized and shot to death in their Reno, Nevada, home by an illegal alien. They were in their eighties and are survived by four children.

King added, “These people are coming because they want a better life. They are trying to live. Sure, there are some outliers but that is not the majority of the people and that bothers me.”

Earlier in the show, CBS This Morning co-host Bianna Golodryga threw cold water on the economy:
Quote:BIANNA GOLODRYGA: There's also a difference talking about a healthy economy and the hottest economy ever in history. It is just not the case. Ghana's economy is growing faster than the United States.
STEPHEN COLBERT: Ghana? Make America Ghana again.
GOLODRYGA: Nigeria. Even China. It's slowing but growing at a faster rate than the U.S. A lot to be excited about. 100 straight months of job growth. The economy, the unemployment rate is at four percent. But we have seen stronger economic growth in years past.

Of course, her husband is  Peter Orszag, the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget for the Obama Administration. So she has an interest in spreading out the credit for the strong economy.

And you would think there are marauding immigrants and migrant workers who are coming into this country who are going to murder us while we're sleeping in our beds. I was at Texas at the border, and when you see these people and you talk to these people, just think what it's like, you have to leave your own country to come to a country where you're not welcomed but you still think it's better to be here than there.

They're fleeing for their lives. They're trying to support their families. They're trying to really save their lives. I met a woman whose daughter had been raped several times. And she said, "I've got to go.” Another guy who was a member of a gang he didn't want to be and his father brought him. You're separating these children from their parents. These people are coming because they want a better life. They are just trying to live. Sure, there are some outliers but that is not the majority of the people and that bothers me.

Sorry to tell you this, you clueless (censored), but there ARE people being killed by illegals, and it seems to be on a daily basis.

Here is a Twitter post showing Sen. Kyrsten being warned to watch her ass when she stood and applauded.  Too bad the democrats are controlled by evil and not allowed to think for themselves.

Oh lookey! There's Cortez right there in the front of the picture wearing a white robe! All she's missing is the pointed hood!

The white robes were the most memorable to me. The only political statement I took from that is that they were in support of the KKK - I've not seen that many white robes in one place since I stumbled across a Klan march years ago. It was eerie and not just a little bit freaky.

Then there's the current "problem with racism" in Virginia - but entirely among the Democrats, who have so stridently voiced opinions against such in public, but now their private lives are on display, and the story is a little bit different from what they've put out there for public consumption...  I though the open display of so much white in the halls of Congress was just a display of solidarity with the Klan and the upper Democratic leadership in Virginia.

I'm still not convinced otherwise, despite their convenient explanation.

The next non-racist in line for Governor here is a Republican, which has thrown our government in Va into turmoil. What WILL they do if all of their top Democrat icons fall by the racist wayside, and Republicans have to take over? Kinda gives the lie to their bullshit screams of "racist!" to hide the fact they are losing arguments involving logic, doesn't it?

BTW, isn't it ironic that Northam is fighting for his life to go full (political) term?... That was probably crude of me to say, but it's a fact.

Although there are no pictures of me in blackface or Klan robes anywhere, because that's never happened (although I've blacked my face upon occasion to hide in the night, it's not the same as trying to emulate black folks - it was camouflage, pure and simple), I am not available for public office. I don't want the job, wouldn't have the job, and don't care to have my history put on public display for various other reasons not connected with racism (I'm as black as Elizabeth Warren is Indian - I've got the DNA tests to prove it, too! Therefore I can't be racist!).

But God-DAMN! All those women-folk in white robes at the SOTU Address! I didn't even know the Klan had a women's Auxiliary!

ETA: If they think they can dispute that all that white was not reflecting their Klan support, they can fuck off. If THEY get to tell me what MY Confederate flag really means, then I get to tell THEM what THEIR white outfits really mean. The Klan started out as a Democrat organization, (fact check me you bitches at Snopes!) and it apparently still is, despite their lip-service otherwise.

I saw the display, and who was displaying it.

.
Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

Yeah, wouldn't you think that someone in the Democratic Public Relations section would've raised a hand
and said "er, excuse me... I think a group of people all in white may be bad optics here"

The word 'white' is inflammatory to some young voters regardless of skin colour.
The media have been brainwashed (or paid) to cause chaos by using the divisive art of racism through
visual and literacy trickery.

Displaying a Klan-related parade of apparel worn by females-only, could imply that all the minority categories
we've been using to segregate the country are now being celebrated by the women of the Democratic Party
regardless of the concerns these groups have.

You can be white, you can be female and you can be a burning-cross carrier too, the Democrats represent
everyone and particularly wealthy women sitting in Congress.

But eh, what do I know. I used to just clean toilets for a living. These people are better than you and me.

I'm curious - is that a BIAD original, or "found on the 'net"?
