China is due to scrap Term Limits
#1
Interesting tid-bit (I learned something already today, not a bad start)

Quote:The tradition of limiting presidencies to 10 years emerged in the 1990s, when veteran leader Deng Xiaoping sought to avoid a repeat of the chaos that had marked the Mao era and its immediate aftermath.

Quote:China's governing Communist Party has proposed removing a clause in the constitution which limits presidencies to two five-year terms.

The move would allow the current President Xi Jinping to remain as leader after he is due to step down.
There had been widespread speculation that Mr Xi would seek to extend his presidency beyond 2023.
Party congress last year saw him cement his status as the most powerful leader since the late Mao Zedong.

China moving towards scrapping term limits

Quote:Mr Xi's two predecessors have followed the orderly pattern of succession. But since he came to power in 2012 he has shown a readiness to write his own rules.

It is not clear how long Mr Xi might stay in power, but an editorial in China's state-run Global Times said the change did not mean "that the Chinese president will have a lifelong tenure".
The paper quoted Su Wei, a Communist Party academic and party member, as saying it was a significant decision as China needed a "stable, strong and consistent leadership" from 2020-2035.

Although it doesn't seem like this is much of a surprise for many:

Quote:This is the announcement many have been expecting.

China's President, Xi Jinping, has become a dominant figure in Chinese politics, commanding the loyalty of the ruling party's factions, the military and the business elite, and making him the most powerful leader since the country's revolutionary founder, Mao Zedong.
Mr Xi's photo is regularly plastered on billboards across the country and his authorized nickname, "Papa Xi", appears in official songs.
Last week, an estimated 800 million tuned in to watch China's annual Lunar New Year gala on television, which promoted Mr Xi's "New Era of Chinese Thought" throughout.

I guess we'll see what happens?

Some more on the making of Xi:

Quote:Born in Beijing in 1953, Xi Jinping is the son of revolutionary veteran Xi Zhongxun, one of the Communist Party's founding fathers and a vice-premier.
Because of his illustrious roots, Mr Xi is seen as a "princeling" - a child of elite senior officials who has risen up the ranks.
But his family's fortunes took a drastic turn when his father was purged in 1962 prior to the Cultural Revolution and imprisoned.
At the age of 15, the younger Xi was sent to the countryside for "re-education" and hard labour in the remote and poor village of Liangjiahe for seven years - an experience that would later figure largely in his official story.

Far from turning against the Communist Party, Mr Xi embraced it. He tried to join it several times, but was rebuffed because of who his father was.

Once he was finally accepted in 1974, he worked hard to rise to the top - first as a local party secretary in Hebei province, before moving on to more senior roles in other places including party chief of Shanghai, China's second city and financial hub.
His increasing profile in the party propelled him to its top decision making body, the Politburo Standing Committee, and in 2012 he was picked as president.

Considering there is lots of proof he supported the IRA, and if you remember the USSR supported the IRA I would say that he was controlled by the USSR. Only God and the USSR know how much info he gave them
