Strange 'Predator' Account From A Renowned Scientist.
#5
I've seen something similar going by the description given here several times, but never gave it much thought. Whatever it is, is kind of "shimmers", and reminds me of the beginning stages of a migraine or cluster headache where your vision goes all wonky in a spot before it goes all to pieces all over. The difference is that when you move your eyes in a migraine type episode, the shimmer moves with them, and this doesn't.

In the Predator movies, the shimmer had a Predator shape, but this doesn't - it's just more or less a blob.

No idea what it is. It could be something as simple as a "bubble" of gas released that plays with the refraction of light going through it because of a difference in the density between it and the air. It's possible. This was a mining area, with abandoned mines all around, and coal seams breaching the surface. Depending on what area of Ohio the woman was in, that explanation could fit, too - southeastern Ohio was a coal mining area, part of the same coal fields found here and in southern West Virginia. The argument against that is that you would have to be pretty close to the gas release point for it to remain discrete like that and not have already dispersed.

Maybe something else, perhaps some sort of energy field, although I couldn't pinpoint a source if that's what it is - no high tension power lines near here or anything like that. I've no explanation for what would allow an energy field to travel like that without a source in it's center to generate it, but just because i can't explain it doesn't mean it's impossible.

Air currents around here can get strange some times. Today for example, at 12:55 it was 97 degrees, and fell to 93 in 10 minutes. So I went outside to see what was up. There was not a breath of wind stirring, it was as silent as the grave, but walking though the yard I could feel temperature differences as I walked, as if there were "streams" of cooler air 3 or 4 feet wide intermixed with the hotter air. A storm was coming, which i suppose was the reason for the temperature drop, but there was nary a bit of wind to bring that cooler air in. It was just there, and at that point interspersed with the warmer air in discrete small areas. Altogether, the temperature dropped 12 degrees to 85 in just under an hour, in the middle of the day, with a short storm 2/3 of the way through that time span... and then the temperature started rising again, which I don't recall ever experiencing before after a mid-day storm. The lack of wind, not even a breeze, was also odd for that situation. I've felt the cold air leading a storm come in as a sheet displacing the warm air before, but never interspersed like that with no wind.

Still, if channels of cooler air can remain discrete from warmer air like that, then it's possible a ball of gas could move along discretely for a distance as well.

OR - it could be some kind of inter-dimensional portal (which could explain the energy source - the interface between dimensions ought to generate energy the same as the interface between cold and hot air does in a storm), or maybe even a time portal or something. Who the heck knows? I've never walked into the shimmer to see what happens!

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’
