Maybe we could consider that the gene that causes Hypertrichosis isn't a negative and merely a hold-over
from ages ago? It's considered a deformity and yet, hair doesn't grow on the palms of the hands or soles
of the feet.
That seems logical to me considering hair on those parts of the body would hinder natural survival.

It could also explain Bigfoot's appearance, instead of categorising them as 'ape-like'.
