It's not about sweetness and light and it's not about seeing the world through
the eyes of a society that wants to help another.

I was witness to five men from East Asia living in an abandoned house in the UK,
using a shower wired straight into an electrical socket with matches to keep the
wires in place.

It's about money... it's always been about money.

Police and immigration officers raid Birmingham food factory in anti-slavery operation.

'Dozens of officers took part in the raid at Star Frozen Foods in Tyseley.
Police have raided a Birmingham food factory this morning as part of an anti-slavery
operation into the exploitation of foreign workers.
West Midlands officers took part in the raid at Star Frozen Foods Ltd in Tyseley's Wharf
Road industrial estate.

Police were joined by colleagues from the National Crime Agency, Birmingham City
Council and the Gangmasters and Slavery Unit. The Salvation Army and interpreters
were also on the raids.

Police had used a double decker bus for the operation, which took place shortly after 11am.
West Midlands Police are responding to reports that foreign workers were being exploited,
with allegations some were sleeping inside the premises.

It is understood the factory is owned by a Romanian national.
Immigration enforcement officers from the Home Office were also in attendance...'

Modern slavery raids find Polish men working for just £1 per hour in Sandwell.

'Arrests made after cops storm Sandwell warehouse as part of slavery operation.
Nearly a dozen Polish men - who are reported to have been paid just £1 per hour
-have been rescued after police smashed a slavery ring in the Black Country.

West Midlands Police raided CAP Recycling in Elwell Street, West Bromwich, and
their sister firm, Black Country Recycling in Union Road, Oldbury, this morning
where they discovered the exploited men living and working in appalling conditions.

Six men were found at the two businesses, three at a flat in Market Place, Great Barr
which is believed to be living quarters for some workers and another two found in a
van outside a suspect’s address in Hope Street in West Bromwich.

One man was said to have been working despite having a broken shoulder while
others were displaying signs of malnutrition and alcohol dependency.
All are now being supported by the Red Cross at a centre in Tipton...'

Foreign workers ‘used as slave labour’ by beds supplier to Next and John Lewis.

'Ethical audits by a series of firms failed to spot their supplier was employing foreign
workers for less than £2 a day.

Scores of foreign workers were employed as “slave labour” in “inhumane conditions” by
a UK bed maker who supplied leading British high street retailers, a court has heard.

Ethical audits by a series of firms including John Lewis, Next and Dunelm Mill failed
to spot their supplier was employing foreign workers for less than £2 a day.

Large numbers of Hungarian nationals were employed by bed-making firm Kozee Sleep
at its factory in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Three people linked to the business went on trial at Leeds Crown Court on 8 October
accused of people trafficking.

Prosecutors said company owner Mohammed Rafiq and two other men who had positions
within the firm -Mohammed Patel and Mohammed Dadhiwala -knew that workers supplied
to them were trafficked.

Christopher Tehrani QC, prosecuting, said: “Kozee Sleep provided some of the UK’s largest
retailers with beds and mattresses either directly or through intermediary companies...'
