According to the Tallahassee Democrat, U.S. Marshals arrested 47-year-old Garrick Bloom, who had been on the run since a warrant was issued for his arrest on Jan. 16.
Authorities in Clarion, Pennsylvania said Bloom was wanted in connection with the rape of a young child, whom investigators said Bloom had been grooming and assaulting since the child was 5 years old.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Bloom outside of a homeless shelter in Tallahassee on Thursday.
Deputy Commander Marty West told the newspaper that Bloom fled Pennsylvania after a warrant was issued for his arrest, and said he first came to Tampa before going to Tallahassee.
Bloom faces 216 counts of rape of a child, 216 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, 216 counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, 216 counts of statutory sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Bloom will be held at the Leon County Jail until he is extradited back to Pennsylvania.
Maybe Jeffery Epstein will get what he deserves yet! Can they do a retrial if the prosecutors were shown to break the law in how they handled the case? I'm not sure how that works. Anyone else know?
Quote:A federal court has ruled that federal prosecutors violated federal law when they signed a sweetheart plea agreement with billionaire pedophile Jeffery Epstein.
U.S. District Judge Kenneth A. Marra issued a 33-page opinion on Thursday which said that evidence showed Epstein ran an international sex operation focused on recruiting and sexually abusing dozens of underage girls.
The ruling is being hailed as a long-awaited vindication of persistent rumors concerning the infamous sex-trafficking operation often referred to as “The Lolita Express“–a reference to a private plane owned by Epstein where many of those underage girls were reportedly forced to have sex with powerful men from the legal, media and political elite.
Judge Marra’s opinion is forthright about the operation long shrouded in official secrecy:
Quote:From between about 1999 and 2007, Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused more than 30 minor girls, including Petitioners Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, at his mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, and elsewhere in the United States and overseas. Epstein and his co-conspirators knowingly traveled in interstate and international commerce to sexually abuse Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe 2 and others, they committed violations of not only Florida law, but also federal law.
Not merely accusations this time around–Judge Marra recites the above and more as the undisputed facts of the case.
“In addition to his own sexual abuse of the victims, Epstein directed other persons to abuse the girls sexually,” the opinion continues. “Epstein used paid employees to find and bring minor girls to him. Epstein worked in concert with others to obtain minors not only for his own sexual gratification, but also for the sexual gratification of others.”
In 2007, federal prosecutors, under the leadership of U.S. Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta, who was then the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, quietly entered into a secretive non-prosecution agreement with the billionaire which ensured that Epstein and his co-conspirators would not be prosecuted federally in exchange for Epstein’s guilty plea to much less serious state prostitution charges.
On top of that, Acosta’s bargain basement deal made sure that Epstein’s co-conspirators were all shielded from prosecution under the extraordinary and unprecedented agreement and the FBI’s ongoing probe closed up shop.
Adding insult to injury, Acosta also agreed to put the agreement under legal lock-and-key.
Two passages from the opinion detail the extraordinary nature of this secrecy arrangement:
Quote:On October 10, 2007, [Epstein defense attorney Jay] Lefkowitz] sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta stating, in. pertinent part: “Neither federal agents nor anyone from your Office should contact the identified individuals to inform them of the resolution of the case, including appointment of the attorney representative and the settlement process. Not only would that violate the confidentiality of the agreement, but Mr. Epstein also will have no control over what is communicated to the identified individuals at this most critical stage. We believe it is essential that we participate in crafting mutually acceptable communication to the identified individuals.” The letter further proposed that the attorney representative for the victims be instructed that “[t]he details regarding the United States’s investigation of this matter and its resolution with Mr. Epstein is confidential. You may not make public statements regarding this matter.”
U.S. Attorney Acosta then met with Lefkowitz for breakfast and Lefkowitz. followed up with a letter stating, “I also want to thank you for the commitment you made to me during our October12 meeting in which you . . . assured me that your Office would not . . . contact any of the identified individuals, potential witnesses, or potential civil claimants and their respective counsel in this matter.”
This meant that none of Epstein’s victims–mostly between the ages of 13 and 16 at the time they were sex-trafficked–had any idea about the agreement and therefore had no way of appearing at Epstein’s sentencing in a bid to force a court to reject the deal.
It was this official veil of secrecy provided by Acosta which Judge Marra rubbished as unlawful in his Thursday ruling.
“Particularly problematic was the Government’s decision to conceal the existence of the [agreement] and mislead the victims to believe that federal prosecution was still a possibility,” Marra noted. “When the Government gives information to victims, it cannot be misleading. While the Government spent untold hours negotiating the terms and implications of the [agreement] with Epstein’s attorneys, scant information was shared with victims.”
Two victims later learned about the shadowy plea agreement and sued–seeking to overturn the plea agreement and alleging that Acosta and his team violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act.
As Law&Crime previously reported, attorneys representing those and other Epstein victims had previously predicted the Acosta-Epstein handshake would be subject to judicial scrutiny and possibly revoked.
“There is no precedent for a non-prosecution agreement like this,” attorney Jack Scarola noted at a press conference in December 2018. “I am completely unaware of any non-prosecution agreement extending immunity to unnamed co-conspirators for unidentified crimes. I am entirely unaware of secrecy having been bargained for in violation of the Crime Victims Rights Act.”
This latest Epstein development comes just months after the Miami Herald‘s groundbreaking investigative journalism series “Perversion of Justice” broke the scandal wide open by unearthing a series of courthouse documents that outlined the extent of the agreement between Acosta’s office and Epstein.

Now, dozens of the Planned Parenthood executives caught on camera have left the corporation, according to Operation Rescue. The videos show the executives insisting on higher payments for the body parts and their willingness to adjust abortion procedures to salvage specific parts desired by researchers.
The videos caused an immediate backlash against the abortion industry, with Senate and House investigations recommending investigation by law enforcement. A pro-abortion lobbyist sued, claiming the videos were deceptively edited, but the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the case. Predictably, abortion industry components sued CMP and the undercover journalists who produced the videos, which mostly were made in public places like restaurants. Several cases continue, including in California, where a pro-abortion attorney general is prosecuting the video makers for allegedly violating privacy rules.
But now, a report by Operation Rescue’s Cheryl Sullenger finds that dozens of the executives in the videos are no longer with Planned Parenthood.
“Pretty much every one who had anything to do with the trafficking of aborted babies is gone from Planned Parenthood, including their CEO Cecile Richards,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue.
Newman was a board member of CMP while the undercover investigation took place. “This isn’t something that happened right after the videos came out,” he said. “Planned Parenthood wields a great deal of political power, which probably helped them think they could withstand the negative press, but now that it is clear that some of that shielding influence is waning. Resignations are still taking place.” He said the departures may be influenced by the ongoing FBI investigation.
In December 2015, the Senate Judiciary Committee and the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives referred the Planned Parenthood Federation of American and six regional affiliates to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. “I believe they are running from prosecution,’ said Newman. “Planned Parenthood has been in a panic since the first video came out. The best defense is a good offense, and that is why they are suing me and other CMP members in federal court.” The list of departures is posted online. It includes Richards, executive Vice President Dawn Laguens, communications Vice President Kevin Griffis, Vice President Deborah VanDerhei, Chief Medical Officer Deborah Nucatola, Chief Financial Officer Wallace D’Souza, Vice President Vanessa Cullins, Vice President Leslie Kantor, Senior Medical Adviser Carolyn Westhoff, action fund Executive Director Deirdre Schifeling, political outreach Director Wendi Wallace, medicial Directors’ Council chief Mary Gatter, Rocky Mountain executive Savita Ginde, Texas medical officer Darrel Jordan and Southwest medical director Katherine Sheehan.
Operation Rescue noted little attention was given to the issue under President Obama, but after Donald Trump moved into office, the investigations “appeared to show signs of life.”
“Even then, there is information from highly placed sources that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe may have provided cover for Planned Parenthood, delaying the investigation. It is no coincidence that many resignations took place after the firing of McCabe in January 2018,” Sullenger’s report said.
“McCabe and Rosenstein had an interest in killing the Planned Parenthood investigation. Apart from a willingness to cover up wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood, any investigation into the abortion giant would have exposed as fraudulent one of their primary sources in their investigation of Trump,” the report said.
“Fusion GPS was a shadowy political dirty tricks group, which had no expertise in forensic video analysis. It was hired by Planned Parenthood in 2015 to produce a report on the CMP videos that would declare the videos ‘deceptively edited’ fakes,” the report said. The 5th Circuit ruling later left that claim unsupported.
Fusion GPS later worked with Hillary Clinton’s campaign to produce the “fake dossier” about Trump that was submitted as evidence to a Washington intelligence court to obtain warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.
The OR report said: “An honest Planned Parenthood investigation could have discredited Fusion GPS and their manufactured phony reports. That could have derailed the investigation into President Trump that was being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and may have led to the exposure of the attempted coup to unseat Trump, a sitting duly elected president.” Newman and other CMP members, including David Daleiden, Albin Rhomberg and Sandra Merritt, “are locked in a legal battle with Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation, their partners in the baby parts scheme.”
“The abortion corporations are fighting to block the release of an estimated 500 hours of undercover video and ultimately punish financially those who exposed their baby body parts business,” he said.
“During the course of those lawsuits, we have seen irrefutable proof that Planned Parenthood sold aborted baby remains for profit. The evidence is indisputable,” Newman said. “Now that it’s time for depositions, where we get to question Planned Parenthood’s abortionists under oath, I have seen more news of additional resignations as of just a few days or weeks ago. They understand that anything they say in the civil case can be used against them in any future criminal case as well.”
Newman said everything is not going Planned Parenthood’s way. “I predict now that some road blocks have been removed, the investigation into Planned Parenthood’s alleged criminal acts will intensify. And who knows what is yet to be learned through discovery in the Planned Parenthood and NAF suits against us?”

Australian Cardinal George Pell, 77, is almost certain to face prison after a jury found him guilty of one charge of sexual penetration of a child and four charges of an indecent act with or in the presence of a child in the late 1990s.
The conviction of Pell, the Vatican treasurer and a close adviser to Pope Francis, will send shockwaves through the church, which is already reeling from accusations of sexual abuse committed by priests worldwide.
Pell is the most senior Catholic official to be found guilty of child sex offenses to date. His conviction brings the escalating international controversy around the abuse of children in Catholic institutions straight to the doors of the Holy See.
A court order banning media reporting of Pell's five-week long trial, which began in November 2018, was lifted by Chief Judge Peter Kidd on Tuesday.
The prosecution's case hinged on the testimony of one man, who said Pell sexually abused him and another boy in Melbourne's historic St. Patrick's Cathedral after mass one Sunday.

The second victim later died from a drug overdose having never revealed the abuse to anyone. The surviving accuser can not be identified under Australian law governing sex abuse victims.
In court the accuser told the jury how Pell, then Archbishop of Melbourne, discovered the two choirboys drinking wine in the priest's sacristy, a small room at the back of the cathedral.
He claimed Pell forced one of the boys to perform oral sex on him and performed an indecent act on his friend. One month later, the victim said Pell pushed him up against a wall and groped his genitals.
Gasps were heard in court after Pell was pronounced guilty of all charges in December.
In a statement Tuesday, Pell's accuser said he had struggled with "shame, loneliness (and) depression" after the abuse.
"Like many survivors it has taken me years to understand the impact upon my life. At some point we realize that we trusted someone we should have feared and we fear those genuine relationships that we should trust," he said in a public statement from his lawyer.
Under Australian law, all details of the first trial, including its existence, were suppressed due to concerns they could prejudice future juries.
The court order was lifted after the crown prosecutor chose to not proceed with a planned second trial into further child sex allegations against Pell.
Pell has repeatedly maintained his innocence. His legal team confirmed on Tuesday they had filed an appeal against the guilty verdict.
The Vatican has yet to comment on the verdict. Pope Francis quietly removed Pell from his small council of advisors for "reasons of advancing age" in December, before the news of the cardinal's conviction became public.

Believe it or not, even after all these facts are shown to the left, they still say we don't need a wall. I have people in my own family who don't want a wall, and I'm just left staring at them like... What?!
People need to be careful when blowing the whistle on certain topics. From my personal observation, it's those who have a "dead man's switch" in place that survive outing certain people.
If you don't know what that is, it's when you make it known that in the event of your death for telling the truth about something, and then you are killed, certain information will come to light that certain people wouldn't want out there.

A former Big Brother star has died under mysterious circumstances shortly after making explosive claims linking a number of celebrities to paedophilia.
Argentinian-born Natacha Jaitt’s naked body was found over the weekend following a house party in Buenos Aires.
Local media report there was evidence of drug use found at the scene — but in an eerie twist, the socialite and former Playboy model seems to have predicted her own death just months earlier.
In April last year, the 41-year-old took to Twitter to claim her life was at risk after receiving unspecified threats.
“WARNING: I am not going to commit suicide, I am not going to take too much cocaine and drown in a bath, or shoot myself. So if this happens, IT WASN’T ME. Save this tweet,” she wrote in Spanish, according to the Buenos Aires Times.

The alarming tweet was published afterMs Jaitt accused a number of well-known public figures — including politicians, journalists, entertainers and sports stars from several big-name clubs — of being involved in underage prostitution earlier that year on live TV.
She is also believed to have implicated a close friend of Pope Francis in the alleged paedophile ring.

It was recently reported about the owner of the Patriots Football Team, umm... I forget his name at the moment (I'm not a sports fan), but he was arrested for pedophilia. I think the article is in this thread if you want to read it.
And then we also have the Australian Cardinal George Pell, who was found guilty of child sex offenses. Could this be a couple of names Ms. Jaitt gave to the investigators?

The pair had planned to meet property owner Guillermo Riconi, 47, in relation to a possible business deal.
But while local news outlets have reported autopsy results showed Ms Jaitt suffered multiple organ failure with no sign of violence, her brother claims she wouldn’t have taken drugs as they would have reacted to medication she had just started taking.

She had already tweeted that if she died, it wouldn't be from cocaine or her own hand, just to let people know. No, this was forced on her by someone who wanted her dead, in my opinion.

Conspiracy theories relating to her mysterious death have run wild on social media, with scores of Reddit users arguing Ms Jaitt’s ominous April 2018 tweet was likely “proof” she hadn’t overdosed.
“She knew the risk she was putting herself at. I’m not a big conspiracy person but … are we really expected to believe that she uncovered this and then just mysteriously killed herself?” one Reddit user asked, while another added: “It must be hard to have info about something so serious yet so sensitive that people might not believe you and if they do you might be killed for it. The world seems like it’s just getting darker and darker.”
There are many more names from high-up places who are supposed to be arrested soon. I hope they are made public so the world can shame them, and hopefully put them in the cages where they belong, if not just rid the world of their evil presence altogether.

'Two wealthy Ecuadorian brothers who were principals in DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics, the California companies fined and ordered to shut down for illegally trafficking world-wide in aborted baby parts it obtained from Planned Parenthood, were arrested by ICE on February 13, 2019.

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Roberto and William Isaías on Feb. 13. ICE representative Nestor Yglesias said the brothers were “unlawfully present” in the U.S., and have been “transferred to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations” for deportation proceedings following their arrest. Yglesias added the pair is “in agency custody pending removal proceedings.”
The arrest of Roberto and William Isaias was gratifying to Operation Rescue, which published an investigative research report on October 27, 2016 – just days before the Presidential Election that put Donald J. Trump in office –that detailed their crimes in Ecuador, dubious dealings with the Obama administration, their business with Planned Parenthood and the aborted baby body parts trade.
“We understood that this family was in the U.S. under suspicious circumstances, and that they had committed crimes in Ecuador and Southern California,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We had hoped that one day they would return to Ecuador so that justice could be done, but their arrests still took us by surprise.”
In 2012, Roberto and William Isaias were sentenced in abstentia to eight years in prison for running their Ecuadorian bank into the ground then presenting false balance sheets to profit from bailout funds, wiping out the life savings of thousands of families. Ecuador says the Isaias family cost the impoverished country a total of $661.5 million.
The Isaias family began dumping large amounts of campaign contributions into American political campaigns, including $90,000 to Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. As a result, after reaching out to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for asylum, the Isaias’ were granted expedited immigration into the U.S. Clinton’s State Department then rebuffed attempts by Ecuador to extradite them to face justice.
Once in America, the Isaias family owned and operated DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics, companies that contracted exclusively with Planned Parenthood of Orange County to receive aborted baby tissues and organs, which they trafficked overseas.
Roberto and William Isaias’ nephew, Estafano Isaias, Jr., who was involved in profit-taking from the two biotech companies, also owned a business that sold pornography online.
After the release of the Center for Medical Progress’ undercover video exposés in 2015, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas sued the companies for their illegal body parts trade, and in 2017 reached a settlement agreement that fined them $7.8 million, and ordered their businesses to close.
“We have mentioned the Isaias brothers repeatedly in articles that we have published over the past couple of years, including the corruption in the Obama Administration, which allowed them to come to our country where they committed further crimes,” said Newman. “We hoped that someone would take notice.”
Just last month, Operation Rescue published an exposé that delved into the market for aborted baby body parts. It revealed that the DaVinci biotech companies sent tissues and organs obtained from Planned Parenthood around the world to businesses that were working to develop anti-aging drugs for the wealthy.
“The Isaias’ are bad people, and we are very relieved that they will soon be back in Ecuador to serve their sentences and hopefully return the money they took from the people they bilked,” said Newman. “And we are especially glad that they are out of the baby parts trade permanently.”...'
This is hard to wrap your mind around, I know, but we have to bring it into the light so people will know what they're funding when they donate to Planned Parenthood, and what happens to those precious babies who survive a botched abortion.

Here's one of those times when the reality of an event and the ignorance of the masses relies on the
integrity of the conduit known as the media. It's fine sitting at a computer, scouring the internet for juicy-bits
of information to shake the shaddocks or rattle the raisins in order to enhance one's perception of today's
world.
But if the report is wrong, poorly-researched or biased, then accountability is lost as a Journalist and also
as a possible wrongdoer in the piece being held to the same justice urged on the audience the article is
displayed to.
Although in my view in this particular instance, it comes down to whether a report will be allowed to be displayed
It's an old-chestnut. Those of high-standing being accused of diddling young-boys in seedy London bedsits
and arranged by influential celebrities abusing their fame. Well-dressed men using the capital's shadows
to hide their journey in order to meet some wide-eyed boy picked-up at Kings Cross railway station on the
promise of a roof over their heads and a night on the town that Petula Clark hinted at.
Some speak of honey-traps and espionage, others remark of post-sexual-needs from private-schooling
in hallowed Harry-Potter-style halls and smelling of rugby ointment and warm woolen scarves. But whatever
the cause, the result is exploitation of those who cannot afford such apotheosis.

Nancy Salzman was known to her followers as “Prefect.” She was a co-founder of Nxivm, a cultlike group near Albany in which [url=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/17/nyregion/nxivm-women-branded-albany.html?module=inline]women were branded with the leader’s initials and forced to have sex with him, federal prosecutors say.
On Wednesday, Ms. Salzman is expected to plead guilty to charges contained in a federal racketeering indictment filed last year against six people in the group, including the former leader, Keith Raniere, a government official and a lawyer familiar with the case said.
Ms. Salzman, a former psychiatric nurse, helped Mr. Raniere found the group in the 1990s. In addition to being accused of being part of a criminal enterprise, she was specifically charged with identity theft and altering records to influence the outcome of a lawsuit against the organization.
On Tuesday, prosecutors filed a notice of a “criminal cause for pleading” for Ms. Salzman in a Brooklyn federal court, an indication that Ms. Salzman would enter a plea the following day. A government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss private plea negotiations, confirmed she had agreed to plead guilty but declined to give details.
Robert Soloway, a lawyer representing Ms. Salzman, did not return an email seeking comment. Another lawyer involved in the Nxivm case, speaking on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss confidential plea negotiations, said that he had been informed that Ms. Salzman would plead guilty. Her intention to enter a guilty plea was first reported Tuesday by The New York Post.
A guilty plea by Ms. Salzman would be significant given her high position within Nxivm (pronounced Nex-ee-um). Others charged in the case include Ms. Salzman’s daughter, Lauren Salzman; Clare Bronfman, an heiress to the Seagram’s liquor fortune; and an actress, Allison Mack, best known for her role in the television series, “Smallville.”
An indictment filed last July charged the defendants with a variety of crimes, including racketeering, identity theft, money laundering, sex trafficking and extortion.
The federal investigation into Nxivm started after The New York Times published an article in late 2017 detailing how women seeking to join a secret sorority within the group were branded on their hip with a symbol that contained Mr. Raniere’s initials.
In addition, women had to provide personal secrets as “collateral” to join the sorority and were warned that the damaging or embarrassing information would be made public if they revealed the sorority’s existence.
Federal authorities described Mr. Raniere, known to his followers as “Vanguard,” as the ultimate master of the sorority. They charged in a criminal complaint that women were forced to have sex with him because they feared that their personal secrets would be released if they refused.
Ms. Salzman’s daughter, Lauren, was reportedly involved in the secret sorority and oversaw branding ceremonies. For her part, Ms. Salzman worked closely for two decades with Mr. Raniere and developed the behavioral programs that formed the basis of Nxivm, former members have said.
Beginning in the late 1990s, an estimated 16,000 people enrolled in courses offered by Nxivm, which said they were designed to bring greater self-fulfillment by eliminating psychological and emotional barriers. Most participants took a few workshops but others were deeply drawn into the group, giving up careers, friends and families in order to move to the Albany area.
It was only after they left Nxivm, several former members have said, that they realized it operated as a cult.
Last March, Mr. Raniere was arrested in Mexico, where he had gone after the federal inquiry started. A few days later, federal agents raided Ms. Salzman’s home in Halfmoon, N.Y., an Albany suburb.
Nxivm has since shuttered its operations. The trial of the remaining defendants in the federal case is scheduled to begin in late April.

abusing young boys. It now seems another place was used for those who wished not to travel all the
way to London.

Police investigated allegations about the abuse of teenage boys at the Cambridge House hostel, Rochdale, in 1969 but no prosecution was brought. David Steel said he discussed the allegations with Smith in 1979, after an article in Private Eye. The peer said he "disapproved" of Smith's actions.
A Rochdale Alternative Press piece featured accounts from three men saying they had been told to take their trousers and underwear down as a punishment at the hostel, and had then been smacked or touched by Smith, who served as a Liberal and Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale from 1972 to 1992.
The inquiry heard Smith told Lord Steel "it was correct, the matter had been investigated by police, no further action was taken and that was the end of the story".
'Past history' Asked why he did not take it further, Lord Steel, who was elected Liberal Party leader in 1976, said he "saw no reason to go back to something that happened during his time in Rochdale" and the events happened "before he was even a member of the Liberal Party or an MP".

"I don't think we went into detail on individual bits of the story," Lord Steel told the inquiry. "He just accepted that the story was correct, and obviously I disapproved, but it was, as far as I was concerned, past history. That was the end of it."
Inquiry counsel Brian Altman QC later asked: "So you came away from that meeting, Lord Steel, not really knowing if he'd committed these offences at all?" The peer replied: "Well, I assumed he had because he said that the account was correct. Why would he have been investigated if he hadn't done something that was possibly wrong?"
Mr Altman continued: "So you understood that he'd actually committed these offences from what he said to you?" Lord Steel responded: "I assumed that."
The QC then asked: "Wasn't that all the more reason to take matters further and hold some form of inquiry?" The peer answered: "No, because it was, as I say, before he was an MP, before he was even a member of my party. "It had nothing to do with me."
When questioned on the idea that children could still have been at risk, Lord Steel said: "I have to admit that didn't occur to me and I'm not sure it would occur to me today." Asked whether or not the party's inaction was to avoid further embarrassment in the wake of the Jeremy Thorpe affair, Lord Steel replied: "Absolutely not."
Lord Steel also described recommending Smith for a knighthood in 1988 and said he did not pass on any allegations about the sexual abuse of children because "I was not aware of any such allegations other than the matter referred to... which appeared to have been fully investigated."
Richard Scorer, specialist abuse lawyer at Slater and Gordon, acting on behalf of seven victims in the inquiry, expressed upset at Lord Steel's admission that he assumed Cyril Smith had committed offences. He added: "The fact that he took no action against Smith despite this -will cause victims great anger.
"Steel's inaction was an appalling dereliction of duty and I hope the inquiry will condemn it in the strongest possible terms." Two years ago the inquiry heard a former pupil at Cambridge House say that Smith touched his genitals during what he thought was "a medical".

'Police were called to conduct a welfare check on the John Capparelli at 9.30am on Saturday but found the suspected paedophile shot dead. Capparelli reportedly moved to Henderson, Nevada from New Jersey after being removed from the church and sacked from his job as a teacher.
He moved state in 2016 after being accused of groping young boys and photographing them in swimwear while he held a position within the New Jersey diocese. In 1992, he was reportedly removed from the ministry after children and their parents brought their allegations to the church but he continued working with kids as a teacher.
Some of his alleged victims won settlements from the church but he never faced prosecution. The allegations were around incidents in the 1980s, when he worked at various churches.
Last year, his name was among 188 that the New Jersey diocese released as part of an investigation into historic child abuse. Rich Fitter, one of his alleged victims who won a settlement from the church after airing his allegations, reacted to the news of his murder with numbness.
“I can't say that I feel sorry for him. “I can't say that I feel any sort of loss. I'm just kind of numb. “I don't want to sound cold, but the world is a safer place without him. “He is a serial predator and he is a sociopath. And he is a criminal,” Fritter told KTNV...'

Dr. Johnnie Barto was sentenced on dozens of counts, including aggravated indecent assault and child endangerment. Prosecutors said he spent decades abusing boys and girls in the exam room at his pediatric practice in western Pennsylvania and at local hospitals, with his victims typically ranging in age from 8 to 12. One was an infant.
Nineteen people gave victim impact statements, both in person and through a prosecutor, describing how Barto caused them to feel hopelessness and despair, caused depression and anxiety and instilled a fear of doctors.
Barto's wife, Linda Barto, was among them.
"He has been lying to me about everything for all of the 52 years I have known him,” she said. “He spent his whole sinister life lying and sneaking around, so he could carry on his abuse uninterrupted.” She said her heart was heavy for the victims.
The attorney general's office had asked for 31 to 62 years in prison.
Barto declined to make a statement.
The Johnstown man pleaded guilty in December to some counts and no contest to others. His lawyer, David Weaver, has said Barto opted to enter pleas so "the healing could begin for his family, his victims and for himself."
Authorities had a chance to stop Barto in 2000, when he appeared before the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine on administrative charges that he molested two young girls in the 1990s. But regulators threw out the case and allowed him to keep practicing medicine, saying the allegations were "incongruous to his reputation." At the time, the prominent pediatrician had a lot of support in the community.
Barto, now 71, went on to molest at least a dozen more young patients before his arrest in January 2018, according to the state attorney general's office.
The medical board's 7-2 decision to let him off the hook in 2000 sparked outrage from victims and at least one former board member. Vivian Lowenstein, who had voted to strip Barto of his license, told the Associated Press last year that she was "sick about it" and that the case was as an example of how Pennsylvania's physician-regulators typically looked out for their own.
The Pennsylvania Department of State, which provides legal and administrative support to the board and prosecutes
administrative cases of doctor misconduct, said last year that "the Board of Medicine takes allegations of sexual misconduct by professional licensees very seriously."
Regulators have not commented on the board's 2000 decision.
