Yessir, I do see certain parallels.

An overamped "crisis" which was really no such thing prompting over-printing of paper money, not backed by hard assets.

Check.

Inept "administrators" falling one after another. People who mismanage "crises" mismanaging.

Check.

The only thing lacking is a barbarian invasion, which place is probably well filled by incessant civil wars. Civil unrest is civil unrest, no matter the source.

it is the recipe for that fall of all empires, the current one included.

We are or were getting close, but not quite there. It's going to take something bigger.

Another piece of history I've learned today.  The short life expectancy of the young leaders is something I never knew.  Probably never enough of life's experience and education to follow through with change.

Tragically our modern leaders live to their 80's and it shows.

The climate changes over that period are remarkable, and yes, similar to these days.
