A better than expected verdict - 727Sky - 10-16-2021 This handed down verdict could have been much worse and all I can say at least this judge was not an idiot. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/scheller-marine-who-criticized-afghanistan-withdrawal-sentenced-reprimand-pay-forfeiture Quote:Scheller, Marine who criticized Afghanistan withdrawal, sentenced to reprimand, forfeiture of $5K in pay RE: A better than expected verdict - Ninurta - 10-16-2021 He showed them how it was done - how you take responsibility for your actions. I bet dollars to donuts it was a wasted effort, and none of his higher ups will jump on the bandwagon to take responsibility for THEIR actions, and that was all he expected from them to begin with! . RE: A better than expected verdict - 727Sky - 10-16-2021 My dad once said that the solders who can sit on a dead horse or a muddy fox hole to eat are the first to go when the war is over as those who have never fired a shot but are more politically motivated are promoted and given a voice in future wars. Something like that...but I always remember that and kinda agree... RE: A better than expected verdict - Tarzan the apeman. - 10-17-2021 Instead of learning from what this guy said his leaders chose to let their egos dictate how not to lead. There is a difference between following orders and having an opinion a true leader would see that. Just my 2 cents. RE: A better than expected verdict - ABNARTY - 10-17-2021 I have mixed feelings on this: - If he had been some lower enlisted service member, he would have been hammered. I'm wondering if in his BN CMD role, he ever UCMJ'ed any of his subordinates far harder for far less. (1 month's pay and letter of reprimand for violation of 4 articles) - A military court handles things far differently that a civilian court. For better or for worse. Yet, most of the media commentary is based on civilian law. Frustrating. - I do not disagree on his assessment of the withdraw. He makes cogent points and demands accountability. I'm all for it. - It turned into a media circus. It's hard to believe this did not play a part in the outcome. - While his career will end at LTC, it could have been far worse. LTC retirement pay is substantial. - Who is willing to put money on him ending up as a military "expert" on Fox when the time comes? Something like that...but I always remember that and kinda agree... You mean like light colonel Windbag, the Ranger School ration thief? Amazing that guy won the Purple Heart and returned to duty the same day. AND, he spied on the commander in chief and was hailed by our faultless press as a 'victim' because he was held to minor account for complete failure to properly accomplish his duties and comport himself with honor. I read once a while back that a poor indicator of overall fitness in the U.S. military was how the officers all ended up with chests full of pretty ribbons, most of which meant little at all. It was compared to Latin American militaries, who suffer from the same syndrome.
