6.2 Earthquake strikes central Italy - senona - 08-24-2016 A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck central Italy, south of the city of Perugia, the US Geological Survey says, with the shock also felt in Rome. Quote:The quake hit at 03:36 (01:36 GMT), 76 km (47 miles) southeast of the city, at the very shallow depth of 10km (six miles), the USGS said. Source No reports of damages or casualties at this time. Hopefully there won't be. Will post any updates as more information comes out..... Are there no building codes in Italy, considering the potential for earthquakes there? I know. Especially as Ninurta pointed out, the buildings are just concrete slabs, no re-bar to help reinforce the walls. They might ought to see about building codes after this tragedy, if they don't have any in place already. Unless these were older buildings that were never updated to better building codes. |
