That's a sight to behold, AND scarf down. Yes, they were big prawns. I had family visiting us in Darwin during a Xmas spell. They came from Southern NSW where me and 'true love' originated from. Prawns down there are generally the size of a thumb. A young bloke took a pic of a prawn from Northern Territory against a coke can. The prawn was bigger by a long shot. Wish I still had the pic but sadly lost a lot in the bushfires. Speaking of crocs we had croc kebabs that xmas meal along with a meter long barramundi and huge crabs. 1 crab. 1 plate. In saying that I had a mate who flew up some boxes of 'Coffin Bay" oysters from way down South Australia. The flesh would fill the palm of your hand. Have visited Coffin Bay, lovely place. Sadly I was in the super market the other day and saw a Dozen oysters for Aus 16 bucks. The flesh was the size of a dime. I love my seafood but would rather go without at that price. Happily if COVID restrictions are lifted for travelling interstate I'll be down South Australia - November in 'Hutch662' stomping grounds and he will be taking me crabbing for those great 'blue' crabs. Bit of luck he might take me 'snapper' fishing. Fingers crossed. One thing i do know is all the ranting ,protest and labels they are handing out will not affect me in the slightest . Not now , not ever . Well we have spoken and you know where I'm coming from. Just want to be an Aussie like when I grew up. I am certainly excited in coming south your way in November and going crabbing. Just want the experience ticked off my bucket list. Would love to go fishing for snapper and whiting from your boat. Looks flash mate. Mine was destroyed in the fires. In saying that, I can't trap rabbits anymore. (Traps illegal). I can't go hunting anymore. (Need a good reason). I have a good reason (100 plus acres) to keep the old shotties but the cost is prohibitive. I'm lucky, in my mind, to just be able to cut firewood during this winter. My post probably aligns to trying to be just an Aussie (currency) but I find it's nearly been outlawed. Hard to find 'true blues' such as yourself. I miss Pheonix and Pronto. Pronto rings me occasionally. I'm sure I outlined what it felt to be an Aussie but that ghost identity is losing traction. If not lost already. 'True Blues' are getting rarer. Separated by distance. And as I added, I'm sick of adjusting to others. I'd like to use this forum for people who identify as a 'fair dinkum' sheila or bloke to express their thoughts as to being a down to earth Aussie and celebrate 'our' diversity. "Tie it up with a bit of wire mate." Seeking real Aussies, like yourself. Post a topic here mate. I'll support it. My kind regards as always, Bally:) RE: I reckon I'm Australian - gordi - 07-01-2020 (06-30-2020, 04:25 PM)Bally002 Wrote: Adjusting to life in Australia. Bally, I could have substituted "Scotland, 55 going on 56, Henry Dundas and St Andrew's Day (whilst missing the Navy bit) and that could have been written by me. My despair at current events and attitudes actually stems mainly from the MEDIA coverage AND PROMOTION of all this crap. I find myself shaking my head at the TV every day now. I could be described as a "standard, traditional" Scot; Mid-fifties, caucasian, Independent-minded, heterosexual, married with 2 kids, working for myself, PROUD of my country (Scotland) and its history... I KNOW that I am in the majority here, because I see and interact with my community every day. (More-so BEFORE lock down). My community is FULL of traditional, straight, independent, working class, caucasian Scots, with just a few ethnic minorities, LGBTQ, unemployed, SJW etc groups thrown into the mix for a nice bit of textured variety! And they are all welcome. BUT to look at the media and TV here... you'd THINK that I was the one representing the TINY MINORITY, living in a community with a HUGE population of ethnic immigrant, LGBTQ, SJW, UK Union-loving, unemployed, snowflakes and banner-waving protesters! Every News item, every interview, every advertisement, every Ident (filler between programmes), even every actual TV programme made in the last 10-15 years or more.... represents or portrays someone ELSE's community, not mine. It makes me feel like an outcast. It makes me feel like the outsider. Unnoticed and unwanted. Those in control of the MEDIA are the ones who are driving this insanity. I have to limit my time spent talking about this, because it literally does make my blood-pressure rise, so I'm going to have to leave it there for now. My dad taught me how to shoot, trap, be humorous and hammer a nail and build a shelter. Those true 'aussie' skills are lost. Now the education system supports young student striking and marching. Thank goodness my youngest son says, "Dad, can I stay home tomorrow. Not interested in that crap." He can cook, is polite, clean, cut wood with precision and stoke the fire in winter for me and his mum. A real Aussie champ. What's his future? Only 17 and frightened of saying the wrong thing and offending someone. Not something me and 'true love' have taught him. Came from schooling. I've reminded him, while out here on our selection, he doesn't have to keep apologising to anyone leastways me and his mum. What he says doesn't offend us. Kinda how I grew up in my family. Yeah, thanks Rogue Nation for an Australian site. I find I can't celebrate that anymore. I refuse to take a bended knee or say 'sorry' for the past. In my immature mind everyone is a mate and if they let you down you're entitled to remind them of such even if it means a bit of a 'touch up.' I'm not violent but when backed into a corner or insulted because I was raised here I'll stand up for myself and my family. A thing that 'Scots' are noted for. My ancestors came from Scottish and Irish backgrounds. Bit of 'rang' = 'red hair' there in my family. March all you want. Just not on the soil of my selection. The good of my nation is awash with the prejudice of other simpletons makings who desire to get noticed. Media is an example. Soon, the term. 'white christmas' will be banned. Not that we have a white christmas here in Australia. Thanks for your reply, I learnt a lot from it. RE: I reckon I'm Australian - gordi - 07-01-2020 We Scots usually start off as a kind of pale-blue colour.... it takes us a week of sunbathing to get white! And then.... 30 seconds later... we are Lobster Red! Luckily, I am the exception! Spending so much time out doors, I do take a reasonable tan. ***Cue modernist snowflake protestors "advising" me that the suns rays are bad for my skin in 3.. 2.. 1..
