We may finally know what causes Alzheimer’s – and how to stop it
Posted by: senona - 01-25-2019, 06:19 AM - Forum: Psychological Well Being - Replies (6)

Another reason to take care of your mouth/teeth/gums.
The bacteria from gum disease may be found to be culprits of damaging the brain's neurons. Which in turn over time, leads to Dementia/Alzeimers.

It does not apply to everyone, but it is a start.
Maybe with further research, it can help patients in the near future.

Quote:
If you bled when you brushed your teeth this morning, you might want to get that seen to. We may finally have found the long-elusive cause of Alzheimer’s disease: Porphyromonas gingivalis, the key bacteria in chronic gum disease

That’s bad, as gum disease affects around a third of all people. But the good news is that a drug that blocks the main toxins of P. gingivalis is entering major clinical trials this year, and research published today shows it might stop and even reverse Alzheimer’s. There could even be a vaccine.

Alzheimer’s is one of the biggest mysteries in medicine. As populations have aged, dementia has skyrocketed to become the fifth biggest cause of death worldwide. Alzheimer’s constitutes some 70 per cent of these cases and yet, we don’t know what causes it.

Bacteria in the brain

The disease often involves the accumulation of proteins called amyloid and tau in the brain, and the leading hypothesis has been that the disease arises from defective control of these two proteins.

But research in recent years has revealed that people can have amyloid plaques without having dementia. So many efforts to treat Alzheimer’s by moderating these proteins have failed that the hypothesis has been seriously questioned.

However evidence has been growing that the function of amyloid proteins may be as a defence against bacteria, leading to a spate of recent studies looking at bacteria in Alzheimer’s, particularly those that cause gum disease, which is known to be a major risk factor for the condition.

Bacteria involved in gum disease and other illnesses have been found after death in the brains of people who had Alzheimer’s, but until now, it hasn’t been clear whether these bacteria caused the disease or simply got in via brain damage caused by the condition.

Quote:
Gum disease link

Multiple research teams have been investigating P. gingivalis, and have so far found that it invades and inflames brain regions affected by Alzheimer’s; that gum infections can worsen symptoms in mice genetically engineered to have Alzheimer’s; and that it can cause Alzheimer’s-like brain inflammation, neural damage, and amyloid plaques in healthy mice.

“When science converges from multiple independent laboratories like this, it is very compelling,” says Casey Lynch of Cortexyme, a pharmaceutical firm in San Francisco, California.

In the new study, Cortexyme have now reported finding the toxic enzymes – called gingipains – that P. gingivalis uses to feed on human tissue in 96 per cent of the 54 Alzheimer’s brain samples they looked at, and found the bacteria themselves in all three Alzheimer’s brains whose DNA they examined.

“This is the first report showing P. gingivalis DNA in human brains, and the associated gingipains, co-lococalising with plaques,” says Sim Singhrao, of the University of Central Lancashire, UK.

Her team previously found that P. gingivalis actively invades the brains of mice with gum infections. She adds that the new study is also the first to show that gingipains slice up tau protein in ways that could allow it to kill neurons, causing dementia.

Quote:New treatment hope

Some brain samples from people without Alzheimer’s also had P. gingivalis and protein accumulations, but at lower levels. We already know that amyloid and tau can accumulate in the brain for 10 to 20 years before Alzheimer’s symptoms begin. This, says Lynch, shows P. gingivalis is a cause of Alzheimer’s, not a result.

Gum disease is far more common than Alzheimer’s. But “Alzheimer’s strikes people who accumulate gingipains and damage in the brain fast enough to develop symptoms during their lifetimes,” she says. “We believe this is a universal hypothesis of pathogenesis.”

Cortexyme reported in October that the best of their gingipain blockers had passed initial safety tests in people, and entered the brain. It also seemed to improve participants with Alzheimer’s. Later this year the firm will launch a larger trial of the drug, looking for P. gingivalis in spinal fluid, and cognitive improvements, before and after.

They also plan to test it against gum disease itself. Efforts to fight that have led a team in Melbourne to develop a vaccine for P. gingivalis that started tests in 2018. A vaccine for gum disease would be welcome – but if it also stops Alzheimer’s the impact could be enormous.

Time to start doing more than just brushing, like gargling with peroxide and water, to clean that mouth out of bacteria.
Do some oil pulling as well.

Swoosh coconut oil around for 10-20 minutes or so, spit out in garbage. That helps pull out bacteria as well.

Jim did have bad teeth, inherited it from his Mom's side of the family. Finally had all his teeth pulled when we were working the Fort Smith Rodeo and Futurity back in the 90's (full dentures).
Maybe that played a part in his dementia along with his numerous medicines over the years. Who knows?!

Quote:Johns Hopkins, Bristol-Myers must face $1 billion syphilis infections suit.

'A federal judge in Maryland said The Johns Hopkins University, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co (BMY.N)
and the Rockefeller Foundation must face a $1 billion lawsuit over their roles in a 1940s U.S.
government experiment that infected hundreds of Guatemalans with syphilis.

In a decision on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang rejected the defendants’ argument
that a recent Supreme Court decision shielding foreign corporations from lawsuits in U.S. courts over
human rights abuses abroad also applied to domestic corporations absent Congressional authorization.

Chuang’s decision is a victory for 444 victims and relatives of victims suing over the experiment, which
was aimed at testing the then-new drug penicillin and stopping the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases.
The experiment echoed the government’s Tuskegee study on black American men who were deliberately
left untreated for syphilis even after penicillin was discovered.

It was kept under wraps until a professor at Wellesley College in Massachusetts discovered it in 2010. U.S.
officials apologized for the experiment, and President Barack Obama called Guatemala’s president to offer
a personal apology.

Chuang said lawsuits against U.S. corporations under the federal Alien Tort Statute were not “categorically
foreclosed” by the Supreme Court decision last April 24 in Jesner v Arab Bank Plc covering foreign corporations.

He said the “need for judicial caution” was “markedly reduced” where U.S. corporations were defendants because
there was no threat of diplomatic tensions or objections from foreign governments.
The judge also said letting the Guatemala case proceed would “promote harmony” by giving foreign plaintiffs a
chance at a remedy in U.S. courts.

According to the complaint, several Hopkins and Rockefeller Foundation doctors were involved with the experiment,
as were four executives from Bristol-Myers predecessors, Bristol Laboratories and the Squibb Institute.

“Johns Hopkins expresses profound sympathy for individuals and families impacted by the deplorable 1940s syphilis
study funded and conducted by the U.S. government in Guatemala,” the university said in a statement.
“We respect the legal process, and we will continue to vigorously defend the lawsuit.”

A Rockefeller Foundation spokesman said that the lawsuit had no merit, and that the nonprofit did not know about,
design, fund or manage the experiment. Bristol-Myers spokesman Brian Castelli declined to comment.

Paul Bekman, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said his clients will proceed with discovery, including the exchange of
decades-old documents. An earlier ruling found no statute of limitations issues if the plaintiffs could not have
learned about the experiment before 2010.
“This experiment began 72 years ago. It’s hard to believe,” Bekman said.

of Maryland, No. 15-00950...'

VA spends $20 million on art!
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-24-2019, 05:10 PM - Forum: Hot Button Issues - No Replies

I don't know if this thread belongs in "Hot Button Issues" or not, but it is certainly a "hot button" issue for me. tinyok

Can you believe whoever was in charge of our tax dollars that went to our Vets spent $16 million on art during the Obama years, when we had so many Vets out there suffering on the streets?!
And it spent $4 million on art before that since 2004.

Hey, I'm a lover of art, but I'm a lover of our Vets who served our country coming first.

Quote:Sen. Chuck Grassley, the leading taxpayer watchdog in Congress, revealed Friday that the Veterans Administration has spent $20 million on art since 2004 — $16 million during the Obama years — even as it was cutting services to war veterans.

[Image: ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmediadc.brightspotcdn...27e890.jpg]

Quote:The Iowa senator said that over half a million was spent for artwork at a rehabilitation center for the blind.

Grassley said he is demanding that the VA explain the purchases which came a time when service to veterans was backing up due to a lack of money for facilities and doctors.

Half a million was bought for a center for the blind?  Are you serious?!   tinybighuh

Someone's got some 'splaining to do!

Quote:"The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs was created with the aim of caring for those who have served to protect the United States, by honoring their faithful service and providing healthcare for the injuries sustained in that service. The funds that are given to the VA are intended to further this goal and ensure that our nation's veterans are properly taken care of," Grassley wrote to Secretary Robert A. McDonald.

"Our veterans deserve the thanks of a grateful nation. Recent media reports have cast doubt on the VA's focus on our veterans. Leaving hundreds of thousands of veterans on wait-lists while spending so much money on artwork undermines the American people's faith in the VA," he added.

This verifies it once and for all.  Everyone who works in upper-level government offices are STUPID!  (Except our President; he's a stable genius.)

Grassley sent a letter to the VA (Veterans Administration) on Friday:

Quote:The Honorable Robert A. McDonald
Secretary
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
810 Vermont Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20420
Dear Secretary McDonald:

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was created with the aim of caring for those who have served to protect the United States, by honoring their faithful service and providing healthcare for the injuries sustained in that service. The funds that are given to the VA are intended to further this goal and ensure that our nation's veterans are properly taken care of. Our veterans deserve the thanks of a grateful nation. Recent media reports have cast doubt on the VA's focus on our veterans. News reports allege that over the last ten years, the VA has spent $20 million on high-end art, with approximately $16 million of that spending occurring during the Obama Administration.

Specifically, artwork cost the VA $1.5 million between 2004 and 2007, and $16.2 million from 2008 to 2014. These expenses include artwork, art consulting, and restoration projects.

On top of these exorbitant expenditures, the VA spent an additional $2 million on "special projects."

Leaving hundreds of thousands of veterans on waitlists while spending so much money on artwork undermines the American people's faith in the VA.

In 2014 the Palo Alto VA location commissioned three separate installations and hired "art consultants," which cost $1,149,335. VA expenditures also include a 27 foot Christmas tree that cost $21,000 in 2011. The San Francisco VA facility spent $32,000 on "local image" pictures, and the Anchorage, Alaska facility purchased sculptures and other pieces that totaled $195,000 between 2009 and 2010.

In perhaps the strangest of these purchases, the Palo Alto Polytrauma and Blind Rehabilitation Center, a healthcare facility specifically committed to serving blind veterans, bought a sculpture and commissioned an exterior wall façade. These two works cost the VA $670,000.

The money used for this art could have gone toward providing better care for our veterans. Since the revelations regarding VA waitlists two years ago, an additional 39,454 new positions have been added to the Department's payroll. Yet, despite the very real backlog problem, only one in 11 of these positions are "Medical Officers."11 In light of these concerns, please answer the following:
1. The VA has stated that rules regarding high-end art procurement will be changed in the future.12 What are the rules as they currently stand? Please provide all relevant documentation. In addition, please explain the changes that will be instituted to ensure that this type of waste will not continue and provide an estimated timeline for implementation.

2. For each VA facility, please describe the type of employee that ultimately has the authority to authorize the purchase of art. Are there any checks and balances on these decisions? Please explain.

3. From 2004 to 2014, how much of the VA's funds were budgeted for art purchases? How much was actually spent?
4. Has the VA looked into whether or not any rules, regulations, or laws were violated by the purchase of the aforementioned art? If so, what was the conclusion? If not, why not?

Please number your responses according to their corresponding questions and respond no later than August 19, 2016. Please contact Josh Flynn-Brown of my Committee staff at (202) 224-5225 should you have any questions.

Okay, this article was from back in 2016, but I'm just now seeing it.  I wanted to share it with others to show how Washington D.C. was just throwing our hard-earned tax dollars around before President Trump was elected and leaving our Vets to wait, and sometimes die, while waiting for medical care.

I'm sure this has been taken care of by now, and I think more wasteful spending will be stopped in it's tracks during this government shutdown. I think the President is seeing who all he can get rid of to save us money. We have a lot of slackers in government who just show up, but do nothing to earn a paycheck.  They need to go.

  Scientist Jailed After Discovering...
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-22-2019, 11:13 PM - Forum: Physical Health - No Replies

Here you go, all you skeptics out there.  I told you how the Deep State hides reports showing things they don't want shown to the public.  Here is a very good example of how they can destroy a preson's life for telling the truth, not to mention all the people who they suicided for finding natural cures to diseases.

[Image: scientist-fired-virus-vaccines-678x381.jpg]

Quote:Molecular bioloist Dr. Judy A. Mikovits was thrown in prison after discovering evidence that deadly retroviruses are transmitted through vaccines given to humans.

In a disturbing true story first published by Natural News, Dr. Mikovits found evidence “that deadly retroviruses have been transmitted to 25 million Americans through vaccines.”

Dr. Mikovits worked with human retroviruses and focused on immunotherapy research and HIV. In 2009, she was doing research on neurological diseases, including autism, when she discovered many of her study subjects were suffering from serious medical issues. These issues included cancer, motor-neuron disorders and chronic fatigue Syndrome (CFS).

Collective-evolution.com reports: She believed a virus may have been responsible for these symptoms, and through her research, she isolated the viruses that turned out to come from mice.

Quote:It looked like a virus, it smelled like a virus, a retrovirus, because those are the types of viruses that disrupt the immune system. And several other investigators back in the 90s had actually isolated retroviruses from these people but the government called them ‘contaminants,’ that they weren’t real and that they didn’t have anything to do with the disease. Well, we isolated a new family of viruses that were called xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus. So these viruses were murine leukemia viruses, mouse viruses.

So spin forward two years, our paper published in one of the best scientific journals in the world in Science, October 8th, 2009. Usually that makes one’s career, in my case it ended my life as a scientist as I knew it.

Virus Delivered Through Vaccines

Dr. Mikovits’ paper, in and of itself, did not immediately bring the wrath of the powerful pharmaceutical industry. However, when a paper published 2 years later made the connection between this new virus and vaccines, then Mikovits’ research findings became too dangerous for the Deep State. Here is how Mikovits explains it in the video:

So in 2011, another AIDS researcher in a journal called Frontiers in Microbiology wrote a paper that really cost me a lot; I didn’t know that he was going to write this paper, but it basically said the most likely way that these murine leukemia virus-related viruses, these types of viruses, entered humans, was through vaccines.

So when did we start vaccines? 1953, 1934, right in the 30s with the polio, and what we were doing to attenuate, to make the virus less pathogenic, less toxic, is we were passing them through mouse brains, so we were passing them through the brains of mice, and every scientist who works with these viruses, and worked at the National Cancer Institute recognized the possibility that if you put human tissue and mouse tissue together the possibility is that you’re going to pick up a virus that is silent, in the mouse, that is it doesn’t hurt the mouse, but it kills the human, or causes serious disease in the human.

Deep State Comes Knocking
It was not long after the implications from the paper became clear and the Deep State saw the threat that was being posed to the vaccine industry that their powerful mechanisms of cover-up, obfuscation, and deception were activated:

Quote:I was fired, jailed, without cause, without hearing, without any civil rights at all, just drug out of my house in shackles one day, on November 18th, 2011, I refused to denounce the data, I refused to say it was a mistake, we have the data, I showed the data, I showed all of the data, and I just refused, they basically said tell everybody you made it all up, and you can go home. And if you don’t, we’ll destroy you. And they did.

She was arrested without a warrant and held in jail for 5 days without the opportunity for bail as a fugitive from justice, and was given a 4-year gag order. Her career was destroyed. Her story is documented in the book Plague: One Scientist’s intrepid Search For the Truth about Human Retroviruses and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Autism, and Other Diseases.

Ironically, the FDA has now approved a testing protocol to detect retroviruses in the U.S. blood supply which is worth millions of dollars, and based in large part on Dr. Mikovits’ research, but it is being managed by Big Pharma. So while this distinguished scientist is now bankrupt and without employment, others are allegedly capitalizing on her research to earn millions of dollars to clean up the U.S. blood supply.

Watch a video in the link above.

I'm actually surprised they allowed her to live.

  UK WWII Memorial Vandalism.
Posted by: BIAD - 01-22-2019, 12:04 PM - Forum: Europe - Replies (4)

We're not fully there yet with this article and the repercussions will probably be suppressed.
Traditionally, anything to do with patriotism and the ultimate sacrifice for one's country is held in such high regard
that anyone defiling the memories of the Second World War is dragged over the coals in the media.

It's a no-no that dwindles ratings, but if it rubs-up against a preferred narrative, the word-play has to be on its
best game to make sure the reader/viewer doesn't take one side and berate the other.

Quote:Vandals splatter paint on WW2 memorials and Churchill statue as RAF pilot, 97, leads fury.

Vandals have splattered white paint over WW2 memorials across London in an overnight spree of destruction,
it was revealed today.

Vandals have thrown paint all over the Bomber Command Memorial in central London & the vandalised figures of
Franklin D Roosevelt and Winston Churchill on the Allies sculpture in New Bond.

'The memorials hit in the attack -believed to be politically motivated -included one to British airmen, a Royal Marines
tribute, and a statue of Churchill. The criminals also targeted wreaths left for RAF veteran Stanley Forsyth, who died
recently aged 98.
The tributes were lashed with paint in a “senseless” and “insulting” defacing.

It is the fourth time The Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park has been vandalised in just six years, after being
opened in 2012 by the Queen. The bronze sculpture was built in honour of the 55,573 airmen in Bomber Command
who gave their lives in the war.

War veteran Vernon Morgan, who flew Lancaster bombers in the Second World War, denounced the vandalism.
The 97-year-old told MailOnline: “It's a disgrace. “One wonders what motivates such things, when all they did was their
duty helping this country in a war.

“The monument is recognition of 55,000 people who lost their lives to help defeat the Nazis.
”The former pilot believed the vandalism could be politically motivated -pointing to the 1945 Bombing of Dresden as a
possible reason.

He added: “Some of these people have been taken with the supposedly dastardly things they (the pilots) did to Dresden
and think that they are criminals, but these men gave their lives so that this country could be free.”
An estimated 25,000 civilians were incinerated in the fire bombing which destroyed 2.5 square miles of the city.

However, the Nazi government initially told German media to publish a casualty figure of 200,000.
Before the memorial was built six years ago, the then-mayor of Dresden flew to London in a futile bid to get the project
scrapped. But works for the £7million memorial went ahead, despite the opposition.
Lt Col Paul Smyth showed the extent of the latest damage in a tweet with the caption: “Utterly tragic. #lestweforget”.

Angry followers expressed outrage and disbelief at the vandalism.
Macer Gifford tweeted: “You have to be a special kind of a*** hole to do something like that. I hope they're caught….”
Andrew Newson wrote: “I find it hard to express the anger and sadness in equal measures of such desecration.
“I know a significant part of society would be happy to see the perpetrators publicly flogged to with in an inch of their life.
“Part of me would love to see them sat with a vet and hear their story.”

Cops said they are working to locate the perpetrator and no arrests have been made at this time.
A Met spokesman said: “Police in Westminster are investigating reports of criminal damage to two statues.
“Police received a report of criminal damage to the Winston Churchill statue at New Bond Street at 07.54am on Monday.
“At 08.28am that same day, damage to the Bomber Command memorial in Green Park, Piccadilly was reported.
“In both cases white paint had been splashed on the statues. “Officers from Westminster investigate -there have been no
arrests.”...'
SOURCE:

Of course, if your great-grandparents weren't involved in the war of Europe, the statues would mean nothing.
And there is that thin line the MSM may have to walk.

  Does anyone use essential oils???
Posted by: senona - 01-22-2019, 03:11 AM - Forum: Daily Chit Chat - Replies (22)

Hey all, boy this seems weird, to actually post a thread after all this time, albeit in chit chat.... minusculerolleyes

Anyhoo, I have been researching alternative natural healing ways for various things in my spare time. I doubt I can do much for Jim's dementia, but I am still open minded to anything. His body seems real touchy to changes and more times than not, causes a "messy" situation (literally) that I try to avoid.

As for me, I am starting to take precautions being as I do not want to be like him and end up taking dozens of meds that I still to this day, blame for his dementia.
All  I have is hypothyroidism, under control mind you,  but I've already started looking into supplements to help with that.

But I have been looking into essential oils to add as part of my regime. I have a co-worker who is into EO, and well she has lit a fire under my azz wanting to learn more.  minusculebiggrin

I found a site that had pretty good reviews for their oils plus reasonable prices called Revive. They have a nice variety of oils and I ordered some bottles today. Anxious to get them now and see if they really do make a difference.
(although, some people would probably laugh at me for collecting crystals)

I'm already a big fan of apple cider vinegar and coconut oil. Now I'm learning new tricks about turmeric (like whitening teeth when mixed with coconut oil.  Just better put gloves on so your hands don't turn yellow).

There is also a 'Natural Health' group on FB that I have been learning much from, including colloidal silver. Now that sounds promising, but as I said, I'm new to some of this.

Any suggestions on what helps you that is a natural source?
What do you take, for what and how much?

Greece And Macedonia, What's In A Name?
Posted by: BIAD - 01-21-2019, 10:25 PM - Forum: Europe - No Replies

It seems Greece holds their culture and national identity close to their hearts, but that's not the EU way though.
tinyhuh

Quote:Protesters clash with police in Athens as thousands attend huge rally to oppose Greek government's
deal with Macedonia on changing its name

'At least 60,000 protesters clashed with riot police in Athens today, using poles, smoke bombs and even Molotov
cocktails during demonstrations against a controversial name change deal with Macedonia.

The deal, which the Greek parliament is due to ratify in days, will see Greece's neighbour be renamed the Republic
of North Macedonia, following a 28-year dispute. The name Macedonia is a sensitive issue for many Greeks, who
believe that it implies their neighbour has a claim on the Greek province of the same name.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has been accused of making 'too many concessions' over his championing of
the landmark agreement, and barely survived a vote of no confidence last week.

Scuffles broke out after about 30 masked youths tried to force the closure of the parliament building, with riot police
responding by using volleys of tear gas to disperse the seething mob. Police estimates put the number of demonstrators
at 60,000, while organisers said 100,000 people had arrived for the rally.

Hundreds of buses brought demonstrators to Athens, with several coming from the region of northern Greece also called
Macedonia. At least 25 police officers were injured and seven people arrested, police said.
A first aid station said two protesters were hospitalised with breathing difficulties.

Some masked protesters also set upon journalists at the scene, smashing the equipment of photographers and cameramen,
according to an AFP reporter. According to the government 'the incidents were provoked by extremists, members of the Golden
Dawn, who attempted to enter parliament'.

'They attacked police with bits of wood and clubs, sending dozens of wounded to the hospital,' said a statement from Prime
Minister Tsipras. A wide range of Greek political parties, from the far-right Golden Dawn to the Socialists, oppose the accord
to rename Macedonia the Republic of North Macedonia.
But it could nonetheless be approved by the required 151 deputies in the 300-seat parliament in the coming days.

Years of tense negotiations finally brought the agreement last June between Greece's left-wing Prime Minister and his
Macedonian counterpart. The dispute dates back to 1991 and the break-up of Yugoslavia after Macedonia adopted its
name when it became an independent nation.

Protesters are against the deal because they believe that any use of the name Macedonia in the neighboring country's name
is a usurpation of ancient Greek heritage and implies territorial claims on Greece.

Among the people who addressed the protest were former conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, a member of the
Mount Athos monastic community and a Greek-American former politician, Chris Spirou, once a member of New Hampshire's
House of Representatives.

In northern Greece, farmers temporarily blocked the highway leading to the Macedonian border in solidarity. It later reopened.
About 300 anarchists staged a counter-demonstration Sunday. Police erected barriers to prevent clashes. After their otherwise
peaceful rally, anarchists burned a car with official license plates...'
