My Ghost (hopefully not a demon) Experience
Posted by: Schmoe1 - 06-28-2020, 08:14 AM - Forum: The Paranormal World - Replies (33)

Here goes, my one and only experience with a ghost, or what I perceived to be a ghost.

When I was twelve, my mom's aunt lived with us for a few years.  She was old, sickly, and slowly losing her mind, but an extremely good person.

I went to go play hockey a few blocks away with some neighborhood friends, and as I'm on my way back it looks like an ambulance was pulling away from my house but I was too far away to be sure.

Sure enough, I get back and my mom tells me her aunt got sick so they're taking her to the hospital. A few days after that she sat my sister and I down and told us she passed away.

Maybe a week or two later, I'm lying in bed with my cat laying on my chest like he always did.  Behind my headboard are sliding closet doors.  I'm petting him, he's purring, and all of a sudden his head darts to a point above my head, runs up my chest claws and all, launches himself into the doors and darts out of the room.

I chalked that up to him being a typical schizo cat, even though he was older and wasn't really like that.  It might have been the next night or the night after, but he didn't come to sleep with me.

I'm lying there trying to doze off, when all of a sudden, I felt the unmistakable feeling of something heavy sitting on my bed next to my knee.  I was paralyzed with fear for I don't know how long...10 seconds? 3 minutes?

When I was able to move, I sprinted downstairs and slept on the couch for a week or two.  I didn't learn for many months after that that my moms' aunt died in the house.  I never experienced anything like that ever again.

How about anybody here, has anyone ever experienced something sitting next to you that wasn't there?

FDA Issues Warnings about 9 Hand Sanitizers That Can Be Toxic and Potentially Deadly If Absorbed by the Body

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for protecting Americans from harmful products. Their track record leaves a lot to be desired. They’ve been blamed by experts and whistleblowers for greatly contributing to the Opioid Crisis.
Because of the pandemic, Americans are using more hand sanitizer than ever before on themselves and their loved ones. Sometimes this is a requirement – not a choice. Here’s a “better late than never” warning about which ones could make you really sick AS WELL AS ultimately cause death.

From MarketWatch:
Quote:Here are 9 hand sanitizers that the FDA warns can be toxic if absorbed by the body
By Mark DeCambre
The FDA issued a warning about sanitizers manufactured by Eskbiochem SA de CV in Mexico
The Food and Drug Administration over the weekend issued a warning on nine alcohol-based hand sanitizers manufactured by Eskbiochem SA de CV in Mexico that it says contain wood methanol, a toxic substance that could ultimately result in death of absorbed through the skin or ingested.
“Consumers who have been exposed to hand sanitizer containing methanol should seek immediate treatment, which is critical for potential reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning,” the FDA wrote on June 19.
“Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death,” the report indicated. The agency said the risk of possible ingestion centered mostly on young children or adolescents who might use alcohol-based sanitizers as a substitute for grain alcohol.
Here are a list of the hand sanitizers manufactured by Eskbiochem:
All-Clean Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-002-01)
Esk Biochem Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-007-01)
CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-008-04)
The Good Gel Antibacterial Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-010-10)
CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-005-03)
CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-009-01)
CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-003-01)
Saniderm Advanced Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-001-01)
The FDA warnings comes as the coronavirus crisis has ramped up demand for hand sanitizer across the globe. At the height of the pandemic in March, a number of retailers, including Costco Wholesale Corp. COST, -1.32%, BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. BJ, -0.97% and Kroger Co. KR, -0.30%, reported surging sales in hand-cleaning products and other sanitizing merchandise. In the week ending April 25, Nielsen said hand sanitizer saw the highest in-store week-over-week growth.
Individuals have even taken to attempting to make their own hand sanitizer; however, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that washing hands with plain soap and water is the best way to kill the novel strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Moreover, hand sanitizer requires at least 60% alcohol. Alcohol dissolves the lipid membrane and disrupts other supramolecular interactions in viruses but you need a fairly high concentration of the alcohol to get a rapid dissolution of the virus. Vodka or whiskey — usually 40% ethanol — won’t dissolve the virus as quickly. “Overall, alcohol is not as good as soap at this task,” wrote Palli Thordarson, a professor at the School of Chemistry at the University of South Wales, Sydney in a column for MarketWatch in April.
Consider this a public service announcement. DCCowboy (over at ATS) and I both speculated that with all the hand sanitizers being used today we would not be surprised to see some super bug mutate and multiply however neither of us thought about (at least I didn't) the sanitizers being straight up bad and possibly fatal for your body.

  Nationwide shortage of coins
Posted by: senona - 06-28-2020, 05:35 AM - Forum: General News and Events - Replies (9)

Until I read this in my work email (I'm a dept. manager at Kohls), I would not have thought anything about shortage of coins.

Toilet paper, yes.
Water, yes.

But coins? No, not really.

However, in my email that I received the other day, Kohls Corp talked about the shortage of coins that has occured due to coronavirus, and that they want the cashiers to start asking if the customer has the change, when paying cash.

And that explains why my Administrator ordered "extra coins" per our store manager.

Quote:(CNN)Masks were the first to go. Then toilet paper flew off shelves. And while Americans are being nickel-and-dimed with coronavirus-related costs in a shaky economy, the latest national shortage includes, well, nickels and dimes.

There's a coin shortage in the US.

"What's happened is that, with the partial closure of the economy, the flow of coins through the economy has gotten all — it's kind of stopped," Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell said during a virtual hearing with the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday.

That's because the supply chain that coins usually flow through has been interrupted during the pandemic, Powell said.
Banks and businesses have shuttered or changed the way they operate. And so there are fewer coins reaching the public.

"The places where you go to give your coins, and get credit at the store and get cash — you know, folding money — those have not been working. Stores have been closed," he said. "So the whole system has kind of, had come to a stop."

The shutdown has created a domino effect on our economy, one thing after another, for both the people and businesses.

Hopefully the road to economic recovery won't be a long one.
But it's not looking too good at the moment.

Nickel and dimed? Kansas City area stores to run low on quarters due to COVID-19

Quote:"It was actually a shock,” said Mike Beal, chief financial officer for Balls Foods.

“You don’t expect to get an email saying the government has run out of coin or that there’s a very low inventory.

He’s never seen that issue before and it left him wondering what they do.

“It puts a pretty big crimp in your business,” Beal said. The company buys an average of $17,000 in quarters a week. With the rationing, it will be limited to only $480 in quarters, he said.

First National Bank of Fort Smith Holds Coin Drive due to nationwide coin shortage

Quote:FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Federal Reserve says the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a national coin shortage.

First National Bank will pay a 2% premium on all U.S. coins brought to any of their branch locations.

First National Bank writes, “Get out your stash, look under your couch cushions, crack open those piggy banks and bring all of your coin to earn an extra 2%.”

Of course, TPTB have been trying to get people to switch over to paying with plastic for years, so while we are caught up in the fear of the virus, wonder if this is their way of slowly getting people to comply without realizing it?!

Just a thought.....

Is anyone worried President Trump will get COVID-19?
Posted by: ChiefD - 06-28-2020, 03:51 AM - Forum: America's President D. Trump - Replies (21)

Okay, here I go, my first thread, and it would be in the Political Forum! I am a real glutton for punishment.

Anyway, I am one of those liberals your mother warned you about. I’m not a fan of President Trump. I do try hard to find the good in some things he does. Like the tax cut was nice. So I don’t hate him, and yeah, despite my dislike for him, he is my President. We must play the hand we’re dealt. Anyway, I watched a little of both of President Trump’s rallies. Based on the estimates of the crowd size, together would be a little over 20,000 people between the two venues.

Most were not wearing masks (no I don’t want to get into a debate regarding masks, that’s been beaten to death), or social distancing. Of course I worry about everyone at those venues. They put themselves at risk for getting COVID-19. But it’s a free country, no biggie there. We all have freedom of choice. Good thing there. I worry President Trump will get sick, after being around so many people. I do not want anything bad to happen to him. He is older after all, and not in the best of health. Being an admitted liberal, please do not paint me with the same broad brush and think I would ever want something bad to happen to him, or anyone for that matter. In fact, it may surprise you to hear I pray for him occasionally.

I’m wondering how those of you here in Rogue Nation feel about all this. Are you worried too? Do you think he’s taking too much of a risk? I realize he’s campaigning, but I think he should refrain from anymore rallies for awhile. What do you all think? I’d love to hear your opinions. Thanks.

  Minneapolis Council Gets Private Security
Posted by: ABNARTY - 06-27-2020, 10:09 PM - Forum: General News and Events - Replies (13)

So...the same folks who voted to get rid of the cities police force now have tax payer funded private security.

"A spokesperson for the city told the outlet that the private security has cost roughly $63,000 over the past three weeks."

Supposedly these three members of the council are receiving threats. I do not condone threats as these but what happens when your ordinary Joe Schmo gets a threat against them? If I were in Vegas I would put 100% of my money on "not getting tax payer funded private security".

Not sure how much more "for thee but not for me" this gets.
